Problem-Based Learning

Problem-Based Learning is an instructional approach that uses inquiry and collaboration to solve open-ended real-world problems.    Instructors fill the role of facilitator and guide, while most of the curriculum is guided by students and their needs.    PBL “…enhances problem solving and higher order thinking and promotes shared knowledge construction” (Hmelo-Silver,2004, p. 246). With PBL, instructors trade breadth of knowledge with in-depth learning focused on real-world context.
