Wildlife Monitoring Group

The Paxton Pits Wildlife Monitoring Group undertakes numerous surveys of flora and fauna throughout the Spring, Summer and Autumn around the Pits. The data collected help support the management decisions to maximise the biodiversity around the Reserve.

Meet at the Visitors’ Centre at 0930.  All surveys last around 3 hours. Bring a packed lunch for the post-survey debrief. 

Saturday 2nd April - Signs of Spring on the Heron Trail 
 
Saturday 23rd April - A look at what’s happening outside the new exclosures in the Sanctuary 

Tuesday 10th May - Our first visit to the recently upgraded Cloudy Bog 

Saturday 11th June - Looking at the late spring plants and insects in the Meadow 

Tuesday 5th July - Dragonflies and Damselflies in the Meadow and beyond 

Saturday 23rd July - An early visit to Dodder Fen 

Tuesday 9th August - Look at the bankside by Southoe Brook (Yard) 

Saturday 20th August - A look at West scrub before we start on some management work 

Tuesday 13th September - A return visit to the Paddock to look for changes 

Saturday 15th October - Rory’s Wood fungi
