SELECTING AN ATTORNEY

Choosing the right lawyer is one of the most important decisions you will make in any legal matter.  You should select an attorney that is knowledgable in the specific area of law relating to your case.  You will also want an attorney that is familiar with the court where your case will be heard.  In addition, you should feel confortable in trusting your attorney.

The best method for finding the right attorney is by asking friends and relatives about their experiences with lawyers.  If this information is not avalable to you, then it is usually wise to meet with several attorneys before deciding which one is best for you.  Most lawyers do not charge a fee for an initial consultation on your case but you should inquire if a fee will be charged before setting up your appointment.

It is a good idea to hire an attorney that regularly practices before the court where your case is located.  A local lawyer will be familiar with the local court rules and the specifics of how the judge and court personnel operate.  When your lawyer knows what the judge is looking for and how the judge has ruled in similar cases, he or she will likely save you a great deal of money and increase your chances of success in the courtroom.
