Georgios A Pavlopoulos, originally from Athens Greece, held his 4-year Diploma in the field of Computer Science from the University of Athens in Greece (2000-2004), his Masters (MRes) degree in Bioinformatics from the University of Leeds in the UK (2004-2005) and his PhD in Bioinformatics and Integrative Biology jointly from the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL-Heidelberg) and the University of Heidelberg in Germany (2005-2009). He completed two short-term postdoctoral fellowships at the EMBL-Heidelberg (2009-2010) and Alexander Fleming Biomedical Sciences Research Center in Athens Greece (2010). He served as a visiting Lecturer at the University of Thessaly - Department of Medical Informatics (2010) and worked as a 2-year postdoctoral fellow at the Catholic University of Leuven - Department of Electrical Engineering in Belgium (2011-2012). He worked as a Bioinformatics instructor and a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Crete - Faculty of Medicine (2013-2015) in Greece and during the same period he served as an elected executive secretary for the Hellenic Society for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics (HSCBB). Since November 2015, he has been working as a Bioinformatics research fellow at the DOE Joint Genome Institute of Lawrence Berkeley Labs in California, USA.
