Seventh Chords

Three Most Commonly Used 7th Chords

     I. All 7th chords are made of 2 components: 1) a triad [root, 3rd, and 5th]  and 2) the note added to the triad called the 7th.
     II. The quality of the 7th chord [major 7, minor 7, or dominate 7] can be determined by asking by asking two questions:
              1. is the triad major or minor
              2. is the interval between the root and 7th major or minor  [major 7ths are 1/2 step below the octave from root, 
                  minor 7ths are a whole step below the octave]
