Patience has an M.A. in Religious Studies from LaSalle University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.   She completed the Spiritual Guidance Program at Shalem Institute For Spiritual Formation ( in 1988 and has been a spiritual director for thirty years.  Catholic by tradition, she has worked in parish ministry, campus ministry, and retreat ministry.  She has led programs for over 18 years at Shalem Institute including:  directing the Personal Spiritual Deepening Program for five years, teaching in the Leading Contemplative Prayer Groups and Retreats Program, the Spiritual Guidance Program and the Clergy Life and Leadership Program.  She leads retreats and workshops on contemplative presence, embodying compassion, contemplative parenting and purpose in life.  She has written a booklet entitled: Parenting: A Sacred Path published by the Center for Children and Theology (
Patience has been active in peace and social justice activites since she was a teenager and is deeply committed to world peace.  She particularly enjoys making the connection between action and contemplation, and cultivates integration of this in her own life.  She has experienced many healing modalities and has been drawn to Bio-Spiritual Focusing and Healing from the Core, both of which she incorporates into her spiritual direction and her teaching.  She strongly desires to empower others to be fully who they are created to BE.
Patience was raised in Altoona, Pennsylvania, and has lived in the Washington, D.C. area for over 30 years.  She currently resides in Greenbelt, Maryland, with her husband.
