Juju zombies’ hatred of living creatures and the magic that created them are what hold them to the world of the living. When a humanoid or monstrous humanoid is slain by an energy drain, enervation, or similar spell or spell-like ability, it may rise as a juju zombie.

Juju zombies are hideous humanoid-shaped creatures. Their bodies are decayed, gray in color, and have the feel of hardened leather. Their clothes are the same as they wore at the time of their death, but hang in rags about their body. A juju zombie’s eyes are small pinpoints of crimson fire. Juju zombies exude a strong odor of death.

Creating a Juju Zombie

“Juju zombie” is an acquired template that can be added to any humanoid or monstrous humanoid (referred to hereafter as the base creature). A juju zombie uses all of the base creature’s statistics and abilities except as noted here.

CR: HD 5 or less, as base creature; HD 6 to 10, as base creature +1; HD 11 or more, as base creature +2.

Alignment: Any evil (usually neutral or lawful).

Type: The creature’s type changes to undead (augmented). Do not recalculate class Hit Dice, BAB, or saves.

Senses: A juju zombie gains darkvision 60 ft.

Armor Class: Natural armor bonus increases by a number based on the zombie’s size:

Hit Dice: Change all racial Hit Dice to d8s. Class Hit Dice are unaffected. As undead, juju zombies use their Charisma modifier to determine bonus hit points (instead of Constitution).

Defensive Abilities: A juju zombie gains channel resistance +4, DR 5/magic and slashing (if HD 10 or less) or 10/magic and slashing (if HD 11 or more), immunity to cold, electricity, and magic missile spells or spell-like abilities that mimic its effects, and resistance to fire 10 in addition to all of the defensive abilities granted by the undead type.

Speed: If the base creature can fly, its maneuverability rating drops to clumsy.

Attacks: A juju zombie retains all the natural weapons, manufactured weapon attacks, and weapon proficiencies of the base creature. A juju zombie also gains a slam attack if it did not already have one. Damage for the slam attack depends on the juju zombie’s size. (Use the base creature’s slam damage if it’s better.) Its natural weapons are treated as magic weapons for the purposes of overcoming damage reduction.

Special Attacks: A juju zombie loses all of the base creature’s special attacks. It retains any extraordinary special attacks that improve its melee or ranged attacks.

Abilities: Str +4, Dex +2, Cha +4. Its Int changes to 4 and its Wis to 10. As an undead creature, a juju zombie has not Constitution score.

Skills: Juju zombies gain a +8 racial bonus on Climb checks.

Feats: Juju zombies gain Improved Initiative and Toughness as bonus feats.

Special Qualities: A juju zombie loses most special qualities of the base creature. It retains any extraordinary special qualities that improve its melee or ranged attacks.
