Highlights of counseling experience

  • Provided crisis intervention and counseling services to emergency services personnel following the crash of TWA Flight 800 and to emergency services personnel, mental health providers, and citizens following the flooding in North Carolinia after Hurricane Floyd.

  • More than six years of service as the clinical director to volunteer, regional team of 60 mental health providers and peers providing crisis intervention services to emergency services and first responders in southeast Virginia.

Overview of counseling roles and experience

Clinical Director, Tidewater Critical Incident Stress Management Team. Senior leader of volunteer team of mental health professionals and emergency services peers dedicated to providing crisis intervention and traumatic stress services to police officer, fire fighters, rescue personnel, and other first responders. (1998-2004; 2007-present) Serve as mental health team leader and intervention lead. (1995-1998; 2004-2007)

Mediator, Community Mediation Center. As volunteer, provide mediation services through the Center for people in conflict. (2006-present)

Mental Health Team Leader, U.S. Coast Guard, Critical Incident Stress Management Team, Integrated Support Command Portsmouth. Mental health responder providing traumtic stress interventions to Coast Guard personnel following critical incidents. (1995-present)

Grant Recipient, Virginia Foundation of Humanities. Received through Therapeutic Spiral International to participate in 8-day workshop, Action Against Trauma, a post-violence training and development program, designed to assist "first-line" community workers in dealing with the long-term effects of violence and post-traumatic stress disorder. (November 2002)
