So, this is how I almost killed my camera Louis. After we did these shots, we were walking back to the embankment when the flip-flop I'd borrowed from Sherri caught on a rock and I went flying face first & camera in tow into the water. :| I don't think I've ever moved so fast in my life. I pulled myself up quickly enough that there was no time for the water to seep into Louis' mechanics. Luckily, too, the camera was turned off when I fell so there was no electrical damage. There was a little water in the battery compartment and around the ring where the lens fits on. My beloved wide-angle lens hit a rock and the UV filter has a terribly large scratch in it. Good thing I had a UV filter on it though, because I bought new one for $7 on E-bay and I don't even want to imagine how much it would've cost to repair or replace it had the glass been scratched. Overall, I think it was worth it. Sure, I almost killed my camera, but look at this shot. I love it. Haha. Anything for the shot. Not to mention, I must have looked HILARIOUS flying through the air and into the water. model: Stacelyn mua: Julie

241/365 - When will I learn....
241/365 - August 29, 2011 After the rains from Irene, I decided to head up to the gorge to see how much higher the water is flowing down the stream. As suspected, it was much higher. I'm posting two shots this morning with slightly different look. Now, the lesson. On Saturday, my Canon 24-70L lens returned from $176 repair from dropping it a few months ago. I was walking into the house and was carrying one item too many if you catch my drift. As I was setting up for this shot, the ground was very soft from all of the rain. I set the camera on the tripod and turned to put something down to look and watch the tripod (only 1/3 the way extended) crash to the crowd on a bunch of small rocks. Of course no lens hood or filter. So, the glass is now all scratched and needs to go back to the shop. The scratches are only noticble in certain conditions at F20 or higher. I don't normally drop things, so to have this happen twice to the same lens is a bit bizarre for me. When will I learn to slow down?
