Parrish Genealogy DNA, Research Group Public Page

Purpose

The purpose of Parrish Genealogy DNA Research group is to bring together the Parrishes of the US and elsewhere under one umbrella with genealogy trees and DNA matches to back up those tree lineages. There are many Parrish lines and we do not yet know how all of them are connected. We are trying to use both Genealogy evidence and DNA evidence to connect them. If you know of others who are Parrish kin and would like to be put on this list, feel free to invite them --- this is a public group. It helps to get more info. You may forward this to any such person.

Data Resource Formats

Family tree information frequently appears in 2 formats: pdf and Gedcom.

  • PDF. You can view the pdf files if you have the Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you don?t have it, you can get the latest version here. PDF files are usually scrollable and often have a retractable left sidebar. You can print all or just a subset of the pages. The keyboard HOME/END keys get you to the beginning and end quickly for those unfamiliar with pdfs. (If you have a gmail account, when you click on a pdf file, you will have the choice to download it and have the Acrobat Reader open in OR you can view it as an html file. In many case this will work just fine and take less time, though sometimes the formatting is strange and images are omitted.)
  • GEDCOM. RootsMagic has a downloadable free trial version of a genealogy program which will let you import the gedcom. The gedcom will work with Family Tree Maker and Legacy and possibly others. See: http://www.rootsmagic.com/demo.htm

Books

We are looking for the names of Parish/Parrish books out there that we can purchase and use in our Parrish library bookcase. We have many lines that need connected

  • There is an author out there by the name of P. J. Parrish that is really two sisters: Kristy Montee and Kelly Nichols who write novels under a pseudonym which name has no origin from any Parrish. They are NOT kin. They have about eleven novels in print. 1.) Dark of the Moon 1999 Copyright 2.) Dead of Winter 2001 3.) Paint It Black 2002 4.) Thicker Than Water 2003 5.) Island of Bones 2004 6.) A Killing Rain 2005 7.) An Unquiet Grave 2006 8.) A Thousand Bones 9.) South of Hell 2008 10.) The Little Death, 2010. 11.) The Killing Song, 07/26/2011.
  • Lance Parrish and David Parrish, father and son, formerly of the NY Yankees and formerly of the Altoona Curve but not there any longer, the pro-baseball leaguers are of the Joshua line. We think John Henry formerly of the Baltimore Orieles, now with the Toronto Blue Jays is of the same line but can not prove it at present. He may be of the George Michael Parrish line of Joshua who went to Lancaster, PA and by way of Samuel Parrish is connected. The pro Black basketball player, I wonder if there are any lines from the slaves and does anyone know of any of these? Henry Parrish?s line does have slaves who are connected back to Humphrey. Some of the Parrish did have slaves and some took their owners? names.
  • I do have the John Parish of Groton, Mass. 12 page hardback text with some corrections in it so what is on the web is not totally accurate. There is a soft cover, 400 some page on as well. There are the Rev. Brent Parrish?s text, The Scott Lee Boyd text, The New England Parrish text. If anyone needs any information on them, I would be happy to fill you in.
  • The Parrish Family by Scott Lee Boyd, to order: E. L. McClelland, 6150 Marrietta Road, Lancaster, Ohio 43130 914-654-2112 I do not know if all of that is currently so.

  • The Douglas Register, 1750-1797 can be ordered on line, just use search engine.
  • The Douglas Register is basically the "Parish Register for Goochland Parish that was begun in 1756 by William Douglas, Minister" this was a statement from the owner of the "Register". The following comes from the Foreword of the Douglas Register, "The Reverend William Douglas came to St. James Northam Parish, in Goochland County, Virginia, (Dover Church), on the 12th of October, 1750. A memorandum in the Register shows that he had charge of St. James Northam Parish for twenty-seven years; Maniken Town (King William Parish), for nineteen years, and ministered to a charge in Buckingham County for four years." Basically, there had not been a Parish Register maintained until Reverend Douglas arrived and began one in 1753 until his death in 1798. Some birth records go back to 1705. I do not know if King William and St. James Northam Parishes covered all of present day Goochland County.

DNA

The group is working on the DNA aspect as well. Here are some DNA resources:

Anyone wanting to do the DNA test is welcome to join the DNA projects, especially lines we have not found the ancestral parents for and not known to our project. Seems we are getting closer to connecting DNA than we are with the tree connections. There are the Stephen, Daniel, Jeffrey, James Richard Parrish, and some other lines that are showing up as close DNA matches and appear to give credence to being of the Maryland and Virginia lines and other main lines. There is the main New England line that seems to have no DNA connection to the VA/MD lineages. PLEASE CONTACT STEPHEN PARRISH FOR ABOUT THE DNA RESEARCH: DNA contact

For more information

To be part of the private group requires a Parrish lineage connection and a sharing of how you might be connected to any Parrish lineage. You could have the name Parrish, be related to a Parrish and interested in the lineage, or shown to be related via a DNA test. This Group's goal is to bring any Parrish line into the main tree whereby establishing a large base index and main lines of Parrish trees. For any of you Parrishes who are researchers, it gives an already established base and index that is useful for researching. The pdf/gedcom is a tool designed to help locating connections. A further goal is to match up and add DNA as further verification of the lineages. DNA testing is NOT require to be a member but as you explore that, you may want to do so and we can assist that request. The private group has a large data base of 21,000 Parrish kin for any name being looked for and requests would be handled on first come first serve basis and as we can timely get to them. Membership is free and requires no obligations. The reasons for keeping the large database private are: to protect the privacy of members in the database, and to prevent hypotheses and work in progress from 'getting loose'. We ask those who join to be careful to note SOURCES of information that is shared and not to use the group resources for purposes other than those stated here.
