In the future, teens rent their bodies to seniors who want to be young again. One girl discovers her renter plans to do more than party--her body will commit murder, if her mind can't stop it. Sixteen-year-old Callie lost her parents when the genocide spore wiped out everyone except those who were vaccinated first--the very young and very old. With no grandparents to claim Callie and her little brother, they go on the run, living as squatters, and fighting off unclaimed renegades who would kill for a cookie. Hope comes via Prime Destinations, run by a mysterious figure known only as The Old Man. He hires teens to rent their bodies to seniors, known as enders, who get to be young again. Callie's neurochip malfunctions and she wakes up in the life of her rich renter, living in her mansion, driving her cars, even dating Blake, the grandson of a senator. It's a fairy-tale new life . . . until she uncovers the Body Bank's horrible plan. . . .STARTERS was the first book I read after getting home from ALA Midwinter, in Dallas. I couldn't wait to dive into it, I was just loving the cover. Well it was a very good choice, I really enjoyed this book. I wouldn't say it was the best written book, I could have used a little more detail. However, Lissa Price did an awesome job at putting you on the edge of your seat and making you the reader suspect everyone. Callie needed help. Her parents are dead and her little brother Tyler is sick. She has an opportunity to make some really good money by selling her body. Now get your head out of the gutter, first of all! I mean Callie can just sit in a chair, go to sleep and a 'renter' (really old people) will use her body to do things they have always wanted to do like: skiing, skating, run a marathon... Callie really needed to get her brother off the streets and even though she didn't trust anyone, she really didn't have a choice. Callie of course takes the awesome offer and decides to let someone else use/rent her body, and that is when all hell breaks loose. I really enjoyed the futuristic thriller aspect of this book. The body is Callies, looks like Callie but has someone else in her brain. Something is very wrong and this is when the story gets exciting! Of course she meets a gorgeous guy and has to solve what went wrong. Yes this book had a few issues, yes it had several holes. But who cares, it was a fun read, nothing to take too seriuosly. I thought this book was well done for what is was, and I can't wait for the sequel ENDERS coming out at the end of 2012.
