Calder White lives in the cold, clear waters of Lake Superior, the only brother in a family of murderous mermaids. To survive, Calder and his sisters prey on humans and absorb their positive energy. Usually, they select their victims at random, but this time around, the underwater clan chooses its target for a reason: revenge. They want to kill Jason Hancock, the man they blame for their mother's death.

It's going to take a concerted effort to lure the aquaphobic Hancock onto the water. Calder's job is to gain Hancock's trust by getting close to his family. Relying on his irresistible good looks and charm, Calder sets out to seduce Hancock's daughter Lily. Easy enough, but Calder screws everything up by falling in love--just as Lily starts to suspect there's more to the monster-in-the-lake legends than she ever imagined, and just as the mermaids threaten to take matters into their own hands, forcing Calder to choose between them and the girl he loves.

One thing's for sure: whatever Calder decides, the outcome won't be pretty.

I have never read a mermaid/merman book ever! I always thought that it crossed the line, there is no way mermaids exist... I mean werewolves, vampires, demon hunters, and faeries definitely exist... Well, that is what I believed, until now.

I absolutely loved this book! I am so glad Andye knows me Oh so well, since she is the one that handed me this audiobook and said...”Enjoy!”. I was so engrossed with this story almost immediately. I loved the idea of Calder (merman) turning to a masculine, good-looking eighteen year old most of the time. He only needed to be in the water six hours a day. He and his three sisters want to take revenge on the son of the man that killed their mother. They have been looking for this son for years and years. Calder’s job was to get close to Lily, the older daughter of John Hancock (the son). The siblings only wanted John in the end, to make the bargain/promise between John’s father and Calder’s mother complete! Calder ends up falling in love with Lily, and does everything in his power to keep his three merciless sisters from taking their revenge on either John or his daughter Lily, which means someone will have to die in the end.

This book was very interesting, sensual, sexy and climatic. I loved Calder, I loved Lily even more. Lily was very deep, she loved old victorian era poetry, and she dressed very strangely. She was also the first girl that didn't swoon over Calder’s charm, which means Calder has to work that much harder.

Read this book, listen to this book, either way you will thank me. This was an awesome story, and I liked how the mermaids/merman were scary, evil, sinister and murderers. If you are thinking about Disney’s “The Little Mermaid”... well that’s sweet, but you are in for a big surprise!
