résumé

renée

After graduating from Seattle University, renée freelanced as a graphic designer, began working for a start-up company, later branching out on her own in marketing and graphic design for the real estate industry.  A few years later, she received a catalog for Pratt Fine Arts Center where she noticed a class for beginning stone carving and signed up immediately! After years of self-taught reductive sculpture techniques, at Pratt she learned about and had access to the right tools and the types of stone that could be carved.

Renée's infatuation with stone was solidified by meeting members of the Northwest Stone Sculptors Association (NWSSA) with a common interest, willing to share their knowledge, loan a tool, observing how sculptors set up carving areas and admiring the variety of abstract and realism in stone. She joined the NWSSA, received a quarterly Journal and was exposed to even more methods of carving through interviews and learning about other artists who shared the love of carving stone. Through an email list, members could post questions, frustrations, solutions, polishing and sealing techniques and tool critiques amongst each other.

A few years later, a post came across that NWSSA was considering hiring a virtual assistant. Renée applied even before they had a full job description pulled together. She was able to prove that her marketing skills, graphic design background plus her love of stone carving would be beneficial for both, and has worked as their virtual office assistant and symposium registrar for over 5 years. Through this position, renée is fortunate to meet and learn from local sculptors as well as internationally respected artists.
