The Bell Witch

The Bell Witch Haunting is a poltergeist legend from the Southern United States folklore involving the Bell family from Adams, Tennessee. According to the legend the haunting began in 1817 when John William Bell Sr. encountered a strange animal on his property. The animal was described as having the body of a dog and the head of a rabbit and it vanished when Bell shot at it. Strange noises and poltergeist activity was reported at his home. Bell Sr. had frequent seizures often rendering him speechless and he died on Dec. 20th, 1820. A small vial with an unidentified liquid was found near his body.
