Air Ion Detector (Counter)
Spirits and Electromagnetic Discharges

Ghost Hunting Equipment: Air Ion Detector
Spirits and Electromagnetic Discharges

An Air Ion Detector detects positive and/or negative ions in the atmosphere. The theory states that this device will help detect paranormal activity due to the high energy of spirit activity which may cause high amounts of electromagnetic discharges.

An air ion counter is used to keep track of the air's positive and negative ions.

Some maintain that the electromagnetic discharges given off by spirits can result in an abnormally high number of positive ions, so this tool serves as a useful signal of their presence.

An ion is an atom or molecule in which the total number of electrons is not equal to the total number of protons, giving it a net positive or negative electrical charge.

An anion (pronounced, from the Greek word ἀνω (anο), meaning "up", is an ion with more electrons than protons, giving it a net negative charge (since electrons are negatively charged and protons are positively charged).

Conversely, a cation, from the Greek word κατά (kata), meaning "down", is an ion with fewer electrons than protons, giving it a positive charge.

An ion consisting of a single atom is an atomic or monatomic ion. If it consists of two or more atoms, it is a molecular or polyatomic ion.

Polyatomic ions containing oxygen, such as carbonate and sulfate, are called oxyanions. If an ion contains unpaired electrons, it is called a radical ion.

Just like uncharged radicals, radical ions are very reactive. Molecular ions that contain at least one carbon to hydrogen bond are called organic ions.

Positively charged organic ions are called carbocations. Negatively charged molecular ions with at least one carbon atom are called organic anions.

Air Ion Detector - Ghost Hunting

Air ion detectors are a tool used by some ghost hunters which may help aid the ghost hunter as an early warning signal in detecting possible paranormal activity which is about to occur.

The Air Ion Counter is a hand-held meter designed to measure ion density which is the number of ions per cubic centimeter (ions/cc) in air.

It measures this number separately for positive and negative ions (+ and - ions are usually present simultaneously).

There are some theories behind this tool when it comes to hunting ghosts.

Theory 1 - It is believed that spirits need to draw energy to manifest themselves therefore a spirit may draw positive or negative ions out of the atmosphere to manifest themselves which would be detected by the air ion detector.

Theory 2 - In theory it is believed that if a spirit is present it would affect the natural and/or man-made ions in the air. If this is true, then the air ion detector would be able to indicate and detect this.
