Shirley Phelps Roper

Shirley Phelps Roper

A "Christian" cult leader named Shirley Phelps Roper is interviewed on Fox News and she believes that God is killing US Soldiers due to a stance on homosexuality. One of the Fox news reporters states that Shirley is going to hell, in reality, she is already there.

The truth of the matter is that Shirley most likely has had a troubled life at an early stage. She has most likely learnt many of the things she believes in from family members and the best way she can express herself is from the actions she commits.

Is she brainwashed? Most likely from traumatic experiences and in all fairness she is angry inside even if she smiles on the outside. Unfortunately people like this do get followers but reports state there are less followers lately, possibly due to police action.

Shirley Lynn Phelps-Roper (born October 31st, 1957) is the eldest daughter of Fred Phelps, minister of the Westboro Baptist Church, an independent church in the United States often characterized as a hate group.

She and the church have received widespread media coverage on news outlets such as the BBC and Fox News for the group's aggressive preaching and controversial campaigns such as the picketing the funerals of AIDS victims with signs such as "God hates fags" and funeral processions for American soldiers killed in combat.

Phelps-Roper received both a B.A. in Criminal Justice and J.D. degree from Washburn University, and currently practices with Phelps Chartered, the Phelps family's law firm.

She is the wife of Brent D. Roper and a mother of 11 children. Her first son was born out of wedlock in 1979 after an affair with a man in a halfway house where she was an intern.

Besides her father Fred, she has been the most public spokesperson of the Westboro Baptist Church and answers many of the e-mails sent to the church in a column called "Dear Shirley".

She is currently on the list of individuals banned from entering the United Kingdom for "fostering extremism or hatred".

Phelps-Roper was arrested on June 5th, 2007, on suspicion of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Police alleged that she allowed her son to trample an American flag while protesting the funeral of a soldier in Bellevue, Nebraska, which is a misdemeanor in the state.

Phelps-Roper has announced her intent to challenge the constitutionality of the Nebraska statute, which may violate the First Amendment to the United States Constitution as interpreted by the Supreme Court in Texas v. Johnson and United States v. Eichman.
