Dr. David Jacobs - Research into Alleged Alien Abductions and UFOs

David Michael Jacobs is an American historian and Associate Professor of History at Temple University, specializing in twentieth century American history and culture.

He is well known in the field of Ufology for his research
into alleged alien abductions and UFOs. Jacobs has a high profile in the field of Ufology. He has lectured widely, been interviewed, and participated in numerous television and radio shows on the subject of alien abductions.

There is no evidence to suggest that extraterrestrials would automatically be benevolent. We might be easy pickings for them.
 - Dr Jacobs

In recent years Jacobs has argued publicly that the evidence from his research, using hypnosis with alleged alien abductees, shows that alien-human hybrids are engaged in a secret program of infiltration into human society with the final goal of taking over the Earth.

He asserts that some of his research subjects are teaching these hybrids how to blend into human society so that they cannot be differentiated from humans, and that this is occurring worldwide.

Scientists such as Carl Sagan and Susan Clancy have criticized the methods used by Jacobs and other abduction researchers. Sagan asserted that sightings and experiences could be attributed to mistaken identity and faulty memory.

Clancy has highlighted problems associated with abduction research, such as faulty memory retrieval when hypnotists "lead" the patient, and sleep paralysis. Jacobs has argued that Clancy's methodology was flawed, stating that in numerous cases people report they were abducted when fully awake and conscious, and that therefore sleep paralysis is not a tenable hypothesis.

Alien Abductions & Hybrids

The terms alien abduction or abduction phenomenon describe "subjectively real memories of being taken secretly against one’s will by apparently nonhuman entities and subjected to complex physical and psychological procedures."

People claiming to have been abducted are usually called "abductees" or "experiencers." Typical claims involve being subjected to a forced medical examination that emphasizes their reproductive system. Abductees sometimes claim to have been warned against environmental abuse and the dangers of nuclear weapons.

Consequently, while many of these purported encounters are described as terrifying, some have been viewed as pleasurable or transformative.

Due to a lack of any substantial physical evidence, most scientists and mental health professionals dismiss the phenomenon as "deception, suggestibility (fantasy-proneness, hypnotizability, false-memory syndrome), personality, sleep phenomena, psychopathology, psychodynamics and environmental factors.".

Skeptic Robert Sheaffer also sees similarity between the aliens depicted in early science fiction films, in particular, Invaders From Mars, and those reported to have actually abducted people.

The first alien abduction claim to be widely publicized was the Betty and Barney Hill abduction in 1961. Reports of the abduction phenomenon have been made around the world, but are most common in English speaking countries, especially the United States.

The contents of the abduction narrative often seem to vary with the home culture of the alleged abductee. Alien abductions have been the subject of conspiracy theories and science fiction storylines (notably The X-Files) which have speculated on stealth technology required if the phenomenon were real, the motivations for secrecy and that alien implants could be a possible form of physical evidence.

Dr. David Jacobs - MUFON-LA

David M. Jacobs, Ph.D. is Associate Professor of History at Temple University in Philadelphia, specializing in 20th Century American History and Culture.

In 1973, Dr. Jacobs completed his dissertation in field of Intellectual History at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, on the controversy over unidentified flying objects in America.

This was the second Ph.D. degree ever granted in the U.S. involving a UFO-related theme.

Dr. Jacobs is one of the foremost UFO abduction researchers in the world. He has worked with over 140 abductees, conducting nearly 900 hypnotic regressions.

Using his extensive primary research, he developed the first scientific typology of abductions. He has amassed over 45 years of primary research data and analytical hypotheses on the subject of UFOs and alien abduction.

Dr. Jacobs' breakthrough 1992 book, Secret Life: Firsthand Accounts of UFO Abductions is the most complete exposition of the structure and meaning of the abduction phenomenon yet published.

His next book, The Threat, published in 1998, presented some very provocative ideas about the alien abduction program and what the motives behind it might be.

In 2000, Jacobs edited UFOs and Abductions: Challenging the Borders of Knowledge. This book features papers by ten noted authors writing about the UFO/Abduction phenomenon. It is notable because its target readership is the academic community.

More recently, Dr. Jacobs has been looking into the subject of human-alien hybrids. Since 2003, he has been focusing on what he refer to as the Hybrid Integration Program. Dr. Jacobs will be presenting us with a rather startling talk about advances in the program that hes come across in his research. Some of these findings are unsettling. One thing is for sure: You wont want to miss this talk.
