Reports State 'Mysterious Floating Objects' in NYC were Birthday Balloons, not UFOs...or Were They?

New York was abuzz on Wednesday, October 13th, with speculation that the little green men had landed when thousands of people looked up to the sky at what they believed to be UFOs.

But the mysterious objects that hovered over the West Side of the Big Apple have turned out to be nothing other than wayward party balloons from a school in Mount Vernon. Traffic had ground to a halt and pedestrians stopped in their tracks to look skyward at the cluster of dots hovering overhead.

A silvery vision of a dozen balloon-like dots hovering in yesterday's clear-blue sky over West 23rd Street in Manhattan had thousands speculating the mysterious objects might be UFOs.

Students of the Milestone School in Mount Vernon were celebrating at an engagement party for one of their teachers. A mother of one of the students, who brought a dozen silver balloons for the occasion, accidentally loosed a bunch at 1pm on Tuesday -- and the first sightings of the UFO were at 1:30pm that same day.

Hours later, Angela Freeman, headmaster, said she saw those same balloons pop up all over Youtube. "UFO? They're crazy," she told the Daily News, "those are our balloons!"

Mystery Solved? NYC UFOs Identified?

A school in a New York City suburb says it is likely responsible for the unidentified objects in the sky that caused quite a stir in the city.

The school says the objects that looked like lights could be balloons that were accidentally let go.

Witnesses posted snaps and video footage of the lights, which zoomed over Manhattan yesterday, on the internet.

Daniel Calhoun, 52, saw the objects and said: "Common sense says it wasn't a UFO." Common sense says it was a plane or a balloon, but this thing stopped everyone in the street for two blocks.

"Any New Yorker will tell you, that alone is extraordinary." Tim Powell, 28 , said it was "the most bizarre thing I've ever seen".

He added: "It looked like a jellyfish made of lights that just hovered in the sky like it wanted to be seen. I was half expecting the aliens to beam down and introduce themselves."

Video of UFO seen over NY from an Airplane

This Video was taken from an airplane passenger flying from Canada to NYC mid morning before NYC UFO's were spotted.

This is some serious stuff on this video.

Certain individuals are extremely upset that this sighting was so quickly dismissed and not investigated properly.

The claims are that two separate events occurred over the skies of New York and one of the events had absolutely nothing to do with balloons.

One individual states that "Balloons do not look like jellyfish hovering in the skies that emit lights". This particular footage shows what appears to be some type of orb in the sky hovering in and out of the clouds over New York.

UFO Cover-up over the Skies of NY? - Sighting was not Balloons

Some individuals are angry that this particular event was blamed on balloons and feel that there is some kind of cover-up.

They believe that there was two strange events in the skies that day and one had nothing to do with balloons.

These reports state that this particular sighting looked more like a jellyfish in the sky and had three bright lights which had nothing to do with the balloons that were seen in the sky the same day.

The logic behind this is sound since this particular sighting was still seen in the sky at night, long before the balloons were released into the air. Maybe there is something more to this then meets the eye.

A spokesman for the FAA: "Nothing that we can account for would prompt this kind of response."

Three new books were released on the subject, all beginning with the premise that UFOs do exist. Joshua Blu Buhs writes: "Believing in UFOs is a rational response to the world as it is experienced. Perhaps our jokes, then, stem from lack of understanding -- or fear."

Mysterious Lights Over East El Paso

Mysterious Lights Over East El Paso, News Channel 9

News of UFO Sighting in East El Paso. Very similar to NYC and other sightings recently.

The object seen in the video appears to emit a bright light which could be the sun reflecting off its surface or it is possible that it may be emitting a pulsating light as well.

Apparently there was some kind of light formation over the skies of El Paso, Texas which was very similar to the lights seen over NYC, as well as other parts of the United States recently.

The sightings in El Paso, Texas are mostly being blamed on flares that skydivers were holding within the area but if you look at the footage this theory makes no sense at all. Skydivers do not free-fall and then just hover on the spot and then continue to free-fall.

Witnesses in El Paso, Texas flooded local police stations and newsrooms with multiple phone calls. Many reported seeing the exact same sequence of events in the night sky.

Maybe we were too quick to dismiss this particular event. Maybe there was some type of cover-up or maybe there actually was a strange event that occurred at around the same time that the separate event of balloons occurred.

Needless to say, something else appeared to occur at around the same time that balloons were in the sky. Balloons don't just move in and out of clouds...
