Black Triangle UFOs (aka Silent Vulcans) are a class of UFOs which appear to be known as a mother-ship. They are generally silent, low flying, display lights which sometimes pulse and do not attempt to evade detection.

The vast size of the craft which has been reported to be in some cases over a mile in length or more would indicate that it is not human in origin.

 
"Black triangles" are a class of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) with certain common features which have reportedly been observed from the 1940s to the present. Reports of black triangles generally originate from the United States and Britain.

Reports generally describe this class of UFOs as enormous, silent, black triangular crafts, hovering or slowly cruising at low altitudes over cities and highways, usually at night and making no attempt to evade detection.

These crafts are often described as having "running lights", either bright white lights or pulsing colored lights that appear at each corner of the triangle
.


Triangular-shaped UFOs have been reported since the 1940s. Accounts of flying triangles, wedges, or boomerangs have increased dramatically since the 1990s.

March 30th, 1993: Multiple witnesses across south-west and west England saw a large black triangle at low speeds.

Analysis of the sightings by Nick Pope concluded that the object moved in a north-easterly course from Cornwall to Shropshire over a period of approximately 6 hours.

The sightings report clearly visible objects over densely populated areas and highways, mostly in the United States and Britain, but other parts of the world as well.

A geographic distribution of U.S. sightings has been correlated by a currently inactive American-based investigative organization, the National Institute for Discovery Science, which led to a July 2002 report which suggested that the craft may belong to the U.S. Air Force.

However, a subsequent report in August 2004 by the same organization (NIDS) found that the rash of sightings did not conform to previous deployment of black project aircraft and that the objects' origins and agendas were unknown
.

The craft are also sometimes reported to be capable of sudden, rapid acceleration, as is often mentioned in descriptions of other types of UFOs.

Some triangular UFO reports are likely sightings of one or more black projects under development by the U.S. military and contractors.

However, the facts that triangles are usually reported in and around populated areas and that they putatively make no effort to evade detection cast doubt on whether such sightings are of military craft.


This in comparison to the F-117 Nighthawk and B-2 Spirit stealth aircraft, which were sighted only occasionally during testing over sparsely populated areas of the Southwest United States such as Groom Lake (Area 51), usually at night and by dedicated civilian observers of military aircraft.

Most black triangle reports indicate that the craft are at least 200 ft (60 m) long and similar to the dimensions of a typical football field in width.

They typically appear silently and seemingly "out of nowhere", drifting a few hundred feet or less above the ground.

Black triangles are usually described as moving very slowly or hovering in one place for varying periods of time, sometimes even landing.

Declassified research (subject to a Freedom of Information request) from the UK Ministry of Defense suggests that "the majority, if not all, of the hitherto unexplained reports may well be due to atmospheric gaseous electrically charged bouyant plasmas" which emit charged fields with the capability of inducing vivid hallucinations and psychological effects in witnesses and are "capable of being transported at enormous speeds under the influence and balance of electrical charges in the atmosphere."

The researchers note that plasmas may be formed by more than one set of weather and electrically charged conditions, while "at least some" events are likely to be triggered by meteor re-entry in scenarios where meteors neither burn up completely nor impact, but rather break up in the atmosphere to form a such a charged plasma.

These Plasma formations are also theorized have the effect of refracting light between themselves, producing the appearance of a black polygonal shape with the lights at the corners caused by self-generated plasma coloration (similar to the Aurora Borealis).

Unlike other reported types of UFOs, Triangle-class UFOs have been reported to be visible to radar, as was the case with the famous Belgian UFO wave. During these incidents, Two Belgian F-16's attempted to intercept the objects (getting a successful missile lock at two occasions) only to be outmaneuvered.

A key conclusion of the Project Condign report was that no attempt should be made on the part of civilian or RAF Air Defence aircraft to outmaneuver these objects except to place them astern to mitigate the risk of collision.


The Phoenix Lights

In March 1997 an unidentified flying object flew over the entire city of Phoenix. Approximately 10,000 people witnessed the incident making it the biggest mass sighting to date.

Nevertheless the US government refused to recognize the incident calling it flares, a widely believed false statement, with little logic and with no hold in reality.

The Phoenix Lights

The Lights Appear:

March 13th, 1997, was the onset of this extremely compelling account of various and sundry phenomenal lights which moved over the state of Arizona. These lights, though referred to as the "Phoenix Lights," were actually witnessed in at least five other cities.

Phoenix has the distinction as the first Arizona city to report the unknown light sources, which were initially spotted over Superstition Mountains, east of the city, at about 7:30 PM.

Six Points of Light:
The first reports indicated an object of six points of light, immediately followed by a report of eight connected lights, with a separate ninth, which moved in unison with the eight.

The formation was seen again over the Gila River just before 10:00 PM. In a matter of minutes, the enormous, lighted structure had made its way over the southern part of the city of Phoenix. By this time, literally thousands of people had witnessed the object.

More Than One Mile in Length:
The enormous object was extremely low, and mountainous areas could be seen behind the craft in pictures, therefore giving photographic experts scale to approximate the elevation from the ground, and the distance from the camera. This would enable an estimate of the craft being a whopping one mile or more in length! The color of its lights were described as "blue-white," to "yellow-white," to "amber."

Silhouettes of People:
A dramatic description of the mother-ship was made by a group of real estate agents who had subdivided property over the northern part of Phoenix. They would get a close-up view of the gigantic object. They estimated the craft to be a staggering two miles wide as it flew at a low altitude near Phoenix. They could see dozens of bright lights along the leading edges, and also a row of windows with "silhouettes of people."

Blocked Out the Stars:
Among the most reliable witnesses of the craft's movements that first night were two airplane pilots, one retired from an airline, and another from Vietnam, who was also a U. S. Marshall. Though seeing the object at different times and places, both men described a craft of "immense size," measuring up to a mile long. The Marshall could also see the city lights of Phoenix reflecting from the bottom of the massive object, while it "blocked out the stars."

F-16s Blast Out of Luke AFB:
A truck driver had been observing two amber colored UFOs moving ahead of him southward for two whole hours. The two UFOs hovered nearby. While his truck was being loaded, the driver walked upon a pile of materials to get a better look at the two UFOs. He could make out two identical "toy, top-like amber orbs" with a white glow to them. A band of red lights pulsated on the craft as it hovered near the Luke AFB runway. Suddenly, two F-16s "blasted out of Luke with their afterburners on full."


Possible Black Triangle UFO Explanations


Black triangles are the subject of much speculation in the ufology community and various conspiracy theories, as well as more skeptical hypotheses.

Common explanations include the following:
  1. Craft of extraterrestrial origin
  2. Top secret craft containing suppressed or reverse engineered anti-gravity technology
  3. The Aurora, an alleged hypersonic spy plane
  4. Common misidentify of one or more conventional aircraft
  5. Psychological phenomenon, such as the availability of previous reports influencing suggestible witnesses
  6. B-2 Spirit stealth bomber or F-117 Nighthawk stealth fighter
  7. Satellites passing overhead, whose points make what appear to be a black triangle in the sky

The one main weakness to attribute human technology aircraft being misidentified for a black triangle UFO is the size. Some sightings have reported the object as being over one mile in length. There is no technology known on the Earth that is the size reported by some witnesses and shown in video and photos.

While it is possible that human military aircraft/objects have been misidentified as a black triangle UFO, this does not explain all the sightings that have been witnessed.

The following aircraft and technology are believed to be possible reasons that may contribute to black triangle UFO sightings:




The Tactical Reconnaissance TR-3B


The tactical reconnaissance TR-3B's (code-named Astra) first operational flight was in the early 90s.

The triangular shaped nuclear powered aerospace platform was developed under the Top Secret, Aurora Program with SDI and black budget monies.


At least 3 of the billion dollar plus TR-3Bs were flying by 1994. The Aurora is the most classified aerospace development program in existence. The TR-3B is the most exotic vehicle created by the Aurora Program.

It is funded and operationally tasked by the National Reconnaissance Office, the NSA, and the CIA. The TR-3B flying triangle is not fiction and was built with technology available in the mid 80s.




The Aurora


Aurora (SR-91 Aurora) is the popular name for a hypothesised United States reconnaissance aircraft, alleged to be capable of hypersonic flight.

The Aurora was supposedly developed in the 1980s or 1990s as a replacement for the aging and expensive SR-71 Blackbird.

A British Ministry of Defence report from May 2006, released under the Freedom of Information Act, refers to USAF priority plans to produce a Mach 4–6 highly supersonic vehicle.


In September 2007, DARPA and the USAF signed a memo of understanding to build a Mach-6 unmanned aircraft called "Blackswift" under the Force Application and Launch from Continental United States (FALCON) program.

It is believed that the Aurora project was canceled due to a shift from spyplanes to high-tech unmanned aerial vehicles and reconnaissance satellites which can do a similar job as a spyplane, but with less risk of casualties or loss of highly expensive, sensitive equipment. On April 23rd, 2010, the US Air Force carried out a test launch of an unmanned hypersonic glider, the Falcon Hypersonic Technology Vehicle 2.





B-2 Spirit Stealth Bomber


The B-2 Spirit originated from the Advanced Technology Bomber (ATB) black project that began in 1979.

The Cold War was well underway, and on the campaign trail in 1979 and 1980, candidate Ronald Reagan promised a restoration of American military strength.


The B-2's low-observable, or "stealth", characteristics give it the ability to penetrate an enemy's most sophisticated anti-aircraft defenses to attack its most heavily defended targets.

The bomber's stealth comes from a combination of reduced acoustic, infrared, visual and radar signatures, making it difficult for opposition defenses to detect, track and engage the aircraft.

Many specific aspects of the low-observability process remain classified. The B-2's composite materials, special coatings and flying wing design, which reduces the number of leading edges, contribute to its stealth characteristics.

The Spirit has a radar signature of about 0.1 m2. Each B-2 requires a climate-controlled hangar large enough for its 172-foot (52 m) wingspan to protect the operational integrity of its sophisticated radar absorbent material and coatings. The engines are buried within the wing to conceal the induction fans and hide their exhaust.




F-117 Nighthawk


The F-117 is shaped to deflect radar signals and is about the size of an F-15 Eagle.

The single-seat Nighthawk is powered by two non-afterburning General Electric F404 turbofan engines, and has quadruple-redundant fly-by-wire flight controls.

It is air refuelable. To lower development costs, the avionics, fly-by-wire systems, and other parts are derived from the F-16 Fighting Falcon, F/A-18 Hornet and F-15E Strike Eagle.


The parts were originally described as spares on budgets for these aircraft, to keep the F-117 project secret. The F-117 Nighthawk has a radar signature of about 0.025  m2.

Among the penalties for stealth are lower engine power thrust, due to losses in the inlet and outlet, a very low wing aspect ratio, and a high sweep angle (50°) needed to deflect incoming radar waves to the sides. With these design considerations and no afterburner, the F-117 is limited to subsonic speeds.





Satellites Orbiting Earth


The United States Space Surveillance Network (SSN) has been tracking space objects since 1957 when the Soviets opened the space age with the launch of Sputnik I.

Since then, the SSN has tracked more than 26,000 space objects orbiting Earth. The SSN currently tracks more than 8,000 man-made orbiting objects.


The rest have re-entered Earth's atmosphere and disintegrated, or survived re-entry and impacted the Earth. The space objects now orbiting Earth range from satellites weighing several tons to pieces of spent rocket bodies weighing only 10 pounds.

About seven percent of the space objects are operational satellites (i.e. 560 satellites), the rest are space debris. USSTRATCOM  is primarily interested in the active satellites, but also tracks space debris which upon reentry might otherwise be mistaken for incoming missiles. The SSN tracks space objects that are 10 centimeters in diameter (baseball size) or larger.


The first satellite, Sputnik 1, was put into orbit around Earth and was therefore in geocentric orbit. By far this is the most common type of orbit with approximately 2456 artificial satellites orbiting the Earth. Geocentric orbits may be further classified by their altitude, inclination and eccentricity.

The commonly used altitude classifications are Low Earth Orbit (LEO), Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) and High Earth Orbit (HEO). Low Earth orbit is any orbit below 2000 km, and Medium Earth Orbit is any orbit higher than that but still below the altitude for geosynchronous orbit at 35,786 km. High Earth Orbit is any orbit higher than the altitude for geosynchronous orbit.





Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird


The Lockheed SR-71 was an advanced, long-range, Mach 3 strategic reconnaissance aircraft developed from the Lockheed A-12 and YF-12A aircraft by the Lockheed Skunk Works.

A particularly difficult issue with flight at over Mach 3 is the high temperatures generated. As an aircraft moves through the air at supersonic speed, the air in front of the aircraft is compressed into a supersonic shock wave, and the energy generated by this heats the airframe.

To address this problem, high-temperature materials were needed, and the airframe of the SR-71 was substantially made of titanium, obtained from the USSR at the height of the Cold War. Lockheed used many guises to prevent the Soviet government from knowing what the titanium was to be used for.

In order to control costs, Lockheed used a more easily-worked alloy  of titanium which softened at a lower temperature. Finished aircraft were painted a dark blue (almost black) to increase the emission of internal heat (since fuel was used as a heat sink for avionics cooling) and to act as camouflage against the night sky.

The aircraft was designed to minimize its radar cross-section, an early attempt at stealth design. The call sign of the aircraft, "Blackbird", signifies the resistance of its airframe to visible light and radar detection.

The SR-71 was unofficially named the Blackbird, and called the Habu by its crews. Clarence "Kelly" Johnson was responsible for many of the design's innovative concepts.

A defensive feature of the aircraft was its high speed and operating altitude, whereby, if a surface-to-air missile launch were detected, standard evasive action was simply to accelerate. The SR-71 line was in service from 1964 to 1998, with 12 of the 32 aircraft being destroyed in accidents, though none were lost to enemy action.
