I am currently a Professor in the Department of Computer and System Sciences in Visva-Bharati University, Bolpur, Shantiniketan, West Bengal, India since November 2007.

I did my Bachelors and Masters in Statistics from Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, India in 1988 and 1990 respectively. Subsequently, I did my Master of Technology in Computer Science in 1993 from Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, India. I did my Ph.D.(Engineering) in 2005 from Bengal Engineering and Science University, Shibpore, India.

I am co-author of eight authored books apart from twenty one edited books and more than two hundred and eighty research publications in peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings. In addition I am co inventor of seventeen published patents.

So far, I had the opportunity to supervise ten Ph. D scholars who have received their Degree, three who have submitted their theses waiting for follow-up formalities, apart from six who at present are pursuing their Ph. D work.

I am a Fellow of Institution of Engineering and Technology (UK), Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, Optical Society of India, Institution of Engineers India, Senior Member of Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) , Institution of Electronics and Electrical Engineers (IEEE), Computer Society of India (CSI), International Association for Computer Science and Information Technology (IACSIT) and Member of Advanced Computing and Communications Society, Indian Unit of Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence - the Indian Affiliate of the International Association for Pattern Recognition, Indian Science Congress Association, Indian Society for Technical Education, System Society of India.

I am the recipient of Excellence in Science and Technology Award 2018 conferred by the Indian Science Congress Association, Govt. of India and (ii) INSA Teacher Award 2019 conferred by the Indian National Science Academy, Govt. of India.
