Ubuntu on Acer Aspire 1524WLMi 


Ubuntu is a complete Linux-based operating system, freely available with both community and professional support. It is developed by a large community .

Installing ( still in text mode ) was straightforward and only when partitioning you should be a little carefull so to make the right choices .

Currently the laptop is running Ubuntu Dapper i386 edition , which is still in development .

Disk Drive  :                  IC25N060ATMR04-0  (60 GB, 4200 RPM, Ultra-ATA/100) [OK]

Optical Drive  :              TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-L532A  (DVD+R9:2.4x, DVD+RW:8x/4x,                                                   DVD-RW:8x/4x,DVD-ROM:8x, CD:24x/10x/24x DVD+RW/DVD-RW) [OK]

Network Adapter   :        INPROCOMM IPN2220 Wireless LAN Card  [OK] ( Only works with                                                                                                                       ndiswrapper )

Modem  :                     Agere Systems AC'97 Modem [ not tested ]

*For the X-server to work properly I had to add these to my /etc/X11/xorg.conf file :

This laptop is operating under Kernel version  2.6.15-19-386

Suspend to Disk works out of the box .

Suspend to RAM does not work .

The touchpad works out of the box .
