Enrico Paolini was born in Fano, Italy, in 1977. He received the Dr. Ing. degree (summa cum laude) in Telecommunications Engineering in 2003 and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering in 2007, both from the University of Bologna, Italy.

While working toward the Ph.D. degree, he was Visiting Research Scholar with the Department of Electrical Engineering of the University of Hawai’i at Manoa, Honolulu, HI, USA. From 2007 to 2010, he held a postdoctoral position with the University of Bologna. Currently, he is an Associate Professor at the Department of Electrical, Electronic, and Information Engineering "Guglielmo Marconi" (DEI), University of Bologna. In 2018 he obtained the Italian national scientific qualification for the position of full professor. His research interests include error-control coding, wireless access protocols, and tracking algorithms in radar systems. In the field of error correcting codes, has been involved since 2004 in several activities with the European Space Agency (ESA).
