I am an Associate Professor of Economics, Teaching Stream, at the University of Toronto. My background is as an applied economist with a focus on economics of conflict, economic development, inequality and political economy. My research investigates on the short and long-term consequences of conflict on welfare, the evolving role of women in post-conflict societies, the role of institutions in shaping the presence of violence and on issues related to inequality and women’s empowerment. My work spans various regions and topics, including specialized domestic violence courts in Puerto Rico, inequality and discrimination in the Brazilian labor markets, the effect of violence on school performance in Mexico, violence, education and women’s empowerment in Timor Leste, and humanitarian responses to crises in Kenya, Nepal and the Philippines. I am currently teaching undergraduate and graduate courses with a strong focus on data applications, research methodologies, applied microeconomics, and issues related to violence and justice. In addition to my academic work, I have previously worked at the Inter-American Development Bank and as a consultant with UN Women and the World Bank.
