Pro-Active Lifestyle and Swimming Water Activities Club

Who are we?

We are a West Somerset water fitness group, calling ourselves PALS for short, because we are pals to each other. We have been in existence for over 20 years, first meeting at Aquasplash in Minehead. However, when Aquasplash closed, like many people we found ourselves with nowhere to meet. Wishing to maintain our congenial association, we made the major decision to become self-sustaining. We moved to St. Audries Pool at West Quantoxhead, where we have been made extremely welcome and wish to share our good fortune with others.

We have a lot of fun together and as well as running three aqua aerobics sessions per week, we also have monthly social meetings, which also help us to raise funds. We feel sure that there are many people in our community who would enjoy being a member, especially now that Sedgemoor Splash in Bridgwater has also closed.

Our sessions are run by aqua aerobics teachers and safety in the pool is paramount.

Who Is Eligible?

Membership of PALS is open to any adult.  Members come from as far away as Taunton and Dulverton. Our age range is 18 to 80+, male and female, and we welcome all new members.  If you are in any doubt about your fitness, please consult your GP first, but be assured that we do accept GP and hospital referrals.

Because the buoyancy of water supports you and reduces the jarring on your joints, water work-outs are particularly good if you:
  • suffer from arthritis
  • have knee problems
  • have a bad back
  • are overweight
  • are recovering from an injury
  • have heart problems

Who, Where and When?

We have our own minibus to pick people up along the route from Porlock, through Minehead, Watchet and Williton. Those not on that route attend by car.

We exercise from 10.00 until 11.00 at St Audries’ Pool on Monday, Wednesday or Friday.  Some people who have special need for intense exercise attend all three sessions.

After the exercise session, those who have any energy left may remain in the pool and swim or relax until 11.30.  Most of us, however,  retire to the Sunlounger Bar, at the camp for coffee.    The bus leaves at 12.00 to return everyone to their homes.

If this interests you come and try a taster session for £5.  If you enjoy it and would like to join us, membership is  £14 per year plus  £5 per swim.

If you are at all interested and would like more information, contact Peter at PALS.
