Continental Divide Trail - Lobo Overlook Loop

"Lobo Overlook Trail" is ride #14 originally published in the book “PAGOSA RIDES; Mountain Biking in and around Pagosa Springs” by Gary Hopkins.

The first half of this 5 mile loop climbs almost 1000’ above Wolf Creek Pass to the Lobo Overlook and radio tower via a dirt access road. Using a spur trail from the tower, the rider accesses the Continental Divide Trail for an exhilarating and somewhat technical descent back to the trailhead. Eastward views extend to the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, while to the south the rider looks down the spine of the Continental Divide extending into New Mexico. Dramatic sunsets and alpenglow on the peaks may reward riders who do this as an afternoon into evening ride; however, watch for thunderstorm build-up as this ride is very high and exposed!
