EXPLORING NEW LOCATIONS
As we build relationships throughout New York, we're constantly painting different interpretative portraits of the stew that was the Silent Barn. Here's my East New York Community Board face portrait of the Silent Barn I made in chalk. It...'s a start. Wherever we go, I wonder what our Silent Barn storefront sign will look like - Hopefully like our profile picture! and I wonder how a public window will transform the Silent Barn's place in the world - Kunal
What can we bring to East New York? These spaces are reserved for music, theater, and performance art from local, national, and international performers. A low overhead (subsidized by residencies) removes financial constraints and allows community participation in event programming, as well as minimizing the ticket price for the community and maximizing income for artists.
An artist in residency program invites artists to live immersed inside of an this multi-functional art space to curate, showcase, and collaborate with art and music from underground new york artists. Taking cues from the Project Row Houses program in Texas, this hopefully provides an especially rare platform for an inspiring collaboration between creative minds from around the world and in East New York.
The workshops mirror the activities of the space, and empower our audience to respond to programming and create work of their own, and to contribute art to an art community. We're proud of ability to take cultivate youth involvement in the arts in particular, as well as providing platforms for younger creative people to take a creative path seriously, and creating face-to-face educational relationships between successful artists and younger enthusiasts of games, art, and music.
The front gallery will create a positive presence in the neighborhood by presenting visual artwork directly to the surrounding community. Open daytime hours, the gallery will also host the resale of independently produced records, publications, art, and video games brought to us through the many performances, workshops, and residencies described above.
