_ The CSAA presents: Flight Song_

On view April 19 – June 1, CSAA is proud to present Flight Song, an immersive sound installation by Sari Carel.

Approaching Bushwick’s Silent Barn as a natural ecosystem unto itself, Carel spent the past four months making field recordings of creaks, murmurs and disembodied voices from within the renowned DIY arts center. Weaving these strands of sound together, Flight Song traverses time and re-mixes architecture and space to create a sonic landscape by using the tools of ornithology and zoology.

The sound piece is accompanied by mixed-media works on paper that draw inspiration from modernist architecture and discarded urban detritus such as lost coins and molted feathers. Together these disparate elements transform notions of the visual and the auditory into delayed reminders of each other.

The opening of Flight Song will be accompanied by a live performance by composer and musician, David Maxwell who will create an improvisational work as an aleatory response to Carel’s sound collage.

_ BLCC presents: Crystalline Mind _

Big Law Country Club presents “Crystalline Mind” a site specific installation by James Moore

Like much of Moore’s practice, Crystalline Mind, is a rhizome of dichotomies - it is an investigation between the divergences of the natural and artificial world, the past and the present, the known vs. the unknown. It reflects upon our breaking points - the moments in which a situation can teether in either direction, but at that moment is caught fighting forcefully somewhere in between. It researches our sensory endurance and our primal systematic triggers of fear. The title, Crystalline Mind, eludes to our microbiological compositions and to our macro spiritual quests; the crystals are a metaphor for the sharp mind full of awareness and the wish for a more utopian society. Crystalline Mind is about overcoming sacrifices made to a potential corrupting force and is an investigation into the possibility of evolution of psychological states that lead to immortality.

_ The CSAA presents: Park Land _

Park Land
new works by C'naan Hamburger

Opening Reception: Tuesday, February 11th, 6 -  9pm
On view through Friday, March 7th

FB EVENT
Website

The Center for Strategic Art and Agriculture is pleased to present Park Land a new series of paintings by visual artist C’naan Hamburger. Opening on Tuesday, February 11, Park Land explores the manicured flora and fauna of public parks with a combination of meticulous detail and whimsical brushstrokes. Her work reveals a profound interest in the structure of nature and of painting.

C’naan Hamburger is a former professional skateboarder and outdoor educator whose passions have turned to painting. She still thinks about the psychology of moving through space as a skateboarder, and now uses it to reveal the instability of recognizable landscapes and to suggest the mind’s capacity to see things in many ways. The natural world is still part of her life, and it runs through her paintings. A tree or even a dandelion can be both unique and yet similar to myriad other trees or dandelions, and this sort of combination of distinctiveness and the repetition, found in the natural world and through the history of art, frames C’naan’s paintings. C’naan graduated from Tufts University, School of the Museum of Fine Arts and resides in New York City.

_Best of Druid Underground DVD release_

JOIN US for a special screening and DVD release party for THE BEST OF THE DRUID UNDERGROUND FILM FESTIVAL, VOL. 1

Sunday, March 9, 2014, 8:30pm

FB EVENT

After a night of bizarre films, free raffle of ridiculously valuable prizes and extras galore, join our DANCE PARTY with 60's soul/garage records spun by: DJ DREW REDMOND

Compiled from 5 years and over 13 screenings of the Druid Underground Film Festival, this DVD features 20 short films destined to blow your mind!

BEST OF THE DRUID UNDERGROUND FILM FESTIVAL DVD PROGRAM

THE GREAT PACKARD LINCOLN BREAKDOWN - Damon Packard
Packard’s 88 Lincoln breaks an axle. Narrated by the late, great Sage Stallone.

I LIVE IN THE WOODS - Max Winston
Winston stop-motion animates a rowdy, purple bearded sprite who leaps about the forest doing whatever his little black heart desires (including violent clashes with local taxidermy animals come to life). The only challenger to his throne is God himself.

TELL-A-VISION - Dave Kidd
A gang of crusty old Humboldt county punks blow away television sets with 12-gague shot-guns under a freeway onramp before the cops show up.

VISIONS OF TERROR - Rodney Ascher
Arscher’s love of grainy VHS horror movies becomes concentrated in a ghostly character played by Josh Fadem who episodically interrupts a woman’s life in order to recommend cheesy VHS for her to watch.

BUG SHOW - Aimee Goguen
Goguen and her friend discover a bizarre desert insect.

CRISPY - Darren Herczeg
The horror of a juicy, crispy hair permanent.

DECORATION AND YOU - Trulee Grace Hall
Filmmaker Trulee Grace Hall constructed over a half dozen renditions of the same dollhouse- the largest being the two story, human-sized set she places her characters within. What starts as a do-it-yourself instruction video gives way to a barrage of “decoration” suggestions that serve to distract the viewer as the scale of the characters and their surroundings become magically inter-changeable.

LET’S MEAT - Ben Cuevas
A lofty poet narrates the thrill of two lovers who integrate raw meat into their sexual rendezvous.

OUROBOROS NEVADA - Vitamin Wig C
Beer cans, back yards, stage make-up and mirrored, musical images unfold in whimsical darkness. A nice place to be.

THE BEE HIVE - Lee Lynch
An experimental scholastic film made to convey the aesthetics and wonderment of nature.

APRIL’S FOOL - Moises Jimenez
Jimenez animates multi-colored skeletons among a glowing battery of scratches and slashes over timeless film footage of a ghostly little girl.

HORS-HUMAIN - Yann Minh
Minh documents a day in the life of a free spirited man who hangs upside-down off of a freeway onramp, escapes the police, and sings at the top of his lungs.

FREEDOM FOREVER - Billy Burgess
Joe is a man at the end of his rope until the Grim Reaper himself is called upon to straighten him out. Partially shot in Trulee Grace Hall’s dollhouse set before the building was demolished to make a parking lot.

“I record my shifting portrait through social interaction, showing myself in the impressions of others. When I agreed to do the experiment with Trish I also made a new OkCupid profile, updating it as the experiment progressed. I found a connection with the OkCupid experience and Trish’s experiment in that both were filled with information partially understood and taken out of context. When the structure of the experiment filtered into the approach I took with OkCupid, the role of romance in science, art and love became, arbitrary.” – Birgit

FB EVENT

A Fundrasing Event for New York is the World
3 Course Dinner w/ Video Installation

$25

The concept is really cool and based off this restaurant in Tokyo, but it would be based on the specific countries that inhabit any-given New York neighborhood. For this dinner we've chosen Bath Beach because of it's population of Middle Eastern, Chinese, and Russian people. Each dish would represent an ethnic group, so we'd begin with a Middle Eastern appetizer, a Chinese entree, and a Russian dessert. A video projection specific to each dish will play during the entire meal and curated music will be played to envelop the guest in that culture for the duration of each dish.

This is a fundraising event so all proceeded will go to help fund this interactive digital map of ethnic communities in New York.

Space is limited so please

_ The Center for Strategic Art and Agriculture presents: Park Land _

Park Land
new works by C'naan Hamburger

_ The CSAA presents: Prime Line _

Jan 15th - Feb 8th

The Center for Strategic Art and Agriculture is proud to present Prime Line, a site specific installation by Brooklyn-based musician, visual and performing artist, Martha Moszczynski.

Combining elements of  sculpture and panoramic mural,  Prime Line is an immersive environment that challenges viewers’ perception of enclosed space.  Prime Line saturates CSAA’s gallery with playful, performative brush strokes, saturating mirrored surfaces, creating an engrossing portal gateway into the otherworldly realm of the greater Silent Barn.

Through her work as a medical photographer/videographer, Moszczynski’s practice evolved to become multivariate, encompassing site specific installations, digital manipulations and murals all unified by themes of scientific imagery, catharsis, and transformation. Her work has been included in group shows at Canada Gallery, Printed Matter, Envoy Gallery and Secret Project Robot. She has performed at Triskelion Arts Center, Panoply Performance Laboratory, Cleopatras and West Fest.
