For over 100 years, Cub Scouts have been having the time of their lives making new friends and learning new things in an environment designed to help them succeed. Cub Scouts has activities for the entire family to enjoy together. If your son is in the first through fifth grades, or 6 to 10 years old, it's time to put down the Xbox get outdoors and have some fun.

Annual Pack Picnic:  July 24th from 12:30-4 PM @ Indian Camp Creek Park - Pavilion #2

Come and enjoy the day at Indian Camp Creek. We will have a variety of activities that include playing games and playing in the creek for the kids (and the adventurous parents!). Parents can kick back and relax while the kids have fun!  The pack will provide the main dish and drinks. Please bring veggies, fruit or desserts to share.

School Night to Join Pack 858: August 25th at 7:00PM @ Progress South Elementary

Please join our pack for this annual event that welcomes new scouts.  Bring your friends, family, and
neighbors who will be in the 1st-5th grade for the coming school year.  Our pack is looking for additional scouts to join us for this year.  We welcome boys from any school, religion, or background.  We will have a short and informal presentation about our pack to show some of the great events we have planned for 2016-2017.  In addition, the boys will have the opportunity to get to know some of the Pack 858 scouts and see to see how fun and educational it is to be a scout in our pack!

Each den (boys of the same age and rank) will have a meeting on the first Thursday of the month.  Dens
will cover requirements for rank advancement and electives.
Tigers attend their den meetings with their adult partners; but Wolf, Bear, and Webelos Scouts can attend den meetings on their own.

While the meetings include games and other activities that are fun for the boys, program delivery is the main goal. Boys participate in activities and work on projects that are related to an adventure and that help them learn the skills they need to progress in rank. The boys also prepare to do their part in the monthly pack meeting.


Annual Kickoff Event "Mad Science": September 6, 2016 at 7:00 PM - PSE Large Gym

Mad Science Shows are fun and educational.  See fascinating science demonstrations, bubbling potions, and amazing chemical reactions.  Join the Pack for its annual kickoff event.  Bring your friends and siblings to this fantastic science show.  


Our show for this year is the "Fire, Wind, and Ice Show."  Children will be dazzled and entertained as they interact with our Mad Scientists! Foggy dry ice storms, giant beach balls floating in the air and even a special Mad Science “burp” potion will amaze children as they learn about chemical reactions, air pressure and the states of matter.  Scientific Objectives: Chemical reactions, air pressure, sublimation, and states of matter

Cub Scout Day One: October 1, 2017 Location - Rotary Park, Wentzville, MO from 9AM - 3 PM

Day One Introduces New Families To Scouting

New Cub Scouts and their families can discover all of the exciting activities Scouting has to offer during Day One. Cub Scouts, their siblings, and parents can participate in activities such as: 

• Blast paint balls out of a slingshot   • Cook over a fire  • Shoot a BB gun 
• Climb a wooden monkey bridge      • Ride a horse       • Make cool art projects
                                      • Make your own rope 

Cost is $10 each per Cub Scout and sibling. For more information and locations, visit dayone.stlbsa.org. Come when you can and plan to stay all day. Families are welcome and picnic lunches are encouraged. Concessions and souvenirs of your day’s adventure will be available for purchase at the Trading Post.

Day One is a terrific way to jump-start your Cub Scout on the Scouting path.

Scouts and their Moms always have a great time at the Pack's annual Bowling event.  $12.50 per person payable at the event or the pack meeting in October.  Three games of bowling, shoe rental, pizza and soda included.

Veteran's Day Assembly:  November 9th, 2016 Location-Progress South Elementary School

  
Scouts are invited to dress in full uniform and perform the flag ceremony during the special school
assembly honoring our Veterans.  PSE will send out assembly times and details prior to event.  Scouts can choose whether to participate in the Color guard.


Scouting for Food, Bag Drop-Off:  November 12th, 2016 from 9:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M. Location-Progress South Elementary Parking Lot



Scouting for Food is the Boy Scouts of America's largest one-day food drive, raising 15% of area food pantries' supplies yearly.


Be a part of this nation-wide tradition as the Cub Scouts drop off food bags to be filled for a food collection the following weekend.   Scouts will gather outside on the PSE parking lot with their Dens and will be assigned a neighborhood/geographic area to hang bags on doors. Parents are needed to transport the boys, ensure safety and help make this event a success.

Scouting for Food, Food Pick-Up:  November 19th, 2016 from 9:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M., Location- O'Fallon Fire Station, 119 East Elm Street



Scouting for Food is a fun day for Scouts to pick up food donated by families in local neighborhoods.

Scouts will gather at the O'Fallon Fire Station with their Dens and will be assigned a neighborhood/geographic area in which they will pick up food bags from porches.  Parents are needed to transport the boys, load food into vehicles, ensure safety and help make this event a success.

The food is brought back to the O'Fallon Fire Station where the Scouts (and parents) sort and load the food onto trucks for delivery to the Hope Food Pantry in St. Charles.

Pine Derby Car Test & Tune: January 11th, 2017 at 7:00PM, Location - PSE Multipurpose Room

This event is optional. Bring your "mostly ready" pinewood derby car on this evening to refine the car and test on a portion of our pinewood track. Tools will be available to tweak cars. In addition, our official scale will be on hand to check the car weight so that the cars are prepared for the impound.


Pinewood Derby Car Impound:  January 19th, 2017 from 5 - 7pm, Location - South Middle School Cafeteria


All derby cars that will be raced with the pack must be surrendered during impound, including parent and sibling cars.  Each car is tested and weighed to ensure that the car meets all of the pack official pinewood derby rules.  All of the cars are then sequestered by the Pack Pinewood Derby chair in preparation for the race.









Pinewood Derby: January 21st, 2017 @ 8:30am-12pm, Location - South Middle School Cafeteria

Scouts will race their cars against each other for trophies and bragging rights!

All scouts should have received their pinewood cars from the pack.  If you still need a car, please contact the cubmaster.

Pastries and hot drinks will be provided.  Please bring any additional snacks that you will need.

Blue and Gold Banquet:  February 26, 2017 from 12:30 P.M. - 3:00 P.M. Location  - TBD

Pack 858 celebrates Scouting Anniversary Week in February with a "birthday party" called the blue and gold banquet.  The blue and gold banquet is the highlight of the year. It brings families together for an evening of fun and cheer.

The purpose of the blue and gold banquet is to celebrate the pack's anniversary, thank pack leaders and other adults who have helped the pack, and inspire the leaders, Scouts, and parents.

 The agenda for the night includes games, awards, and our official ceremony where our Webelos 2s move to Boy Scouts. 

Make plans to attend this annual celebration dinner to recognize the accomplishments of our Cub Scouts of Pack 858.

Dad and Lad Cake Contest:  All Scouts are invited to make a dessert with their dad or male mentor based on the theme of the event.

The event includes a buffet style dinner.  The cost for the dinner is $10.00 per attendee.  All scouts should wear their Class A, official uniform.

Rank Advancement/Graduation Ceremony: May 28th, 2017 at 6:30 P.M. Location - TBD

Join us for the annual rank advancement ceremony.  Bring your friends, neighbors. and relatives.
Help the pack congratulate the scouts for their hard work this year as we look forward to the new scout year about to begin.  Make sure your scout looks his best. Each scout should wear his "Class A" blue shirt, blue dress shorts, neckerchief, and slide.


Good Turn: May 28th, 2017 Location - Jefferson Barracks

Scouts will honor those who served our country by raising the American Flag and then lowering it to half-mast as Scout buglers play “Taps.” Scouts who earned the rank of Eagle Scout- the highest rank in Scouting- during the past year will serve as the color guard. Scouts and leaders will then decorate each grave in the cemetery with a small American Flag.

The tradition, entering its 68th year, is one of the longest running Memorial Day events within the Boy Scouts of America. The 2017 Memorial Day “Good Turn” will take place on Sunday, May 28 beginning at 12:30 p.m.
