  • The Pack 608 Website - Welcome!
Hello!!  The Pack 608 website has been created as primarily a new to scouting guide to give our families a single comprehensive site to all of the general information on Scouting.

Details on schedule, members (besides leaders), photos of members and children are not on this website but secured in our Scouttrack tool and a locked down member only site on facebook.

Once a member of Pack 608  and after a background check and application processing you gain access to our secure sites and all of the requisite data specific to the Pack and our activities.

Cub and Boy Scouting at the Pack level is all run by volunteer parents seeking to instill in their children values and character that Scouting has represented for over 100 years.  We need scouts but we can't have a program without the parents helping us lead.

If you'd like to contribute let us know.  You can start at the "Strong Leaders" section.

    Thank you,

About Pack 608

BSA Pack 608 Overview

Cub Scout Pack 608 has served children for decades and carries on a tradition focused on developing children through Fun with a Purpose.

While every other cub scout pack in east Fort Lauderdale has gone out of existence we have continued to prosper and thrive due a disciplined approach to the best setting and activities to keep children engaged.

1) After a full day in the classroom we don't make the kids sit in yet another one for another hour to do crafts.  We start outside to let them run off steam and then gear the den program to achieve the goals of scouting through activities they will enjoy.

2) Camping.  Kids love Minecraft because it is the only way they can experience the outdoors the way most of us did as children.  We do our best to bring them the real thing through six camp outs a year from October through April.  Campfires, S'mores, skits, songs, climbing trees, hiking, fishing, exploring, building forts, seeing animals in a safe setting like deer, turkeys, tortoises, hawks, falcons, owls, alligators, snakes and much more.

We live in an urban jungle with more concrete than woods and there aren't suitable outdoor experiences for children in close proximity to Fort Lauderdale.  Starting about an hour away we find safe and secure locations where the kids can play completely separated from any people outside of our group.  These locations include Camp Sawyer in the Florida keys and Camp LaNoche near Ocala which are idyllic natural settings families and kids adore.

3) A Family Program - Cub Scouting is an event for everyone in your family.  Our campouts and activities are always attended by grandparents, sisters, younger and older children, aunts & uncles.
Siblings (yes - girls too!) and adults build and race pinewood derby cars, participate in skits, and are full and vibrant members of the Pack family.

Further, we require all adults to have filled out an application which includes  background check to ensure our children are safe.

This is a family program and no one is left out.

For those of you worried about camping - there are dozens of people that are ready to help you sent up a tent, unload your car and make sure you have everything you need.  You don't need to bring food - we have it all included - especially coffee!!!

4) Costs and how to manage - the dues for scouting are very low ranging around $25 a year.  However, costs for uniforms, camping, activity dues can add up quickly and some families aren't ready to make that investment until they know for sure their kids will want to fully participate.

We have ways and means to mitigate those expenses including scholarships, fundraising to cover the costs and "experienced" uniforms and camping gear.  Ask the leaders about these programs and we will do everything we can to keep you and your family in scouting.
