Scouting For Food 2018

Scouting for Food flyer-drop off will be the weekend of March 17&18. Food pick-up & drop off at the Masonic Hall is March 25 from 1:00pm-4:30pm. We need as many paper grocery bags as we can collect. Please start saving your bags! Additional information, including collection routes, to come.

CANCELLED - Rocket Day 2018

Sadly, our Rocket Day scheduled for today (4/7) has been canceled because Needham fields are closed. Hopefully we can reschedule for later in the year.

Build and Launch your very own rocket with Pack 4! 
When: Saturday, March 24, 1:00pm - 4:00 pm - Cancelled 
Rain/Snow Date: Saturday, April 7 - Cancelled 
Where: Claxton Field (Please note: parking is limited at Claxton Field so families are encouraged to carpool. If the Claxton parking area is full, families must park at the Town Forest/Horsford Pond; there is no parking on Central Avenue.) 

Suggested Times by Den (to decrease wait times for rocket launches):
1:00 - 2:30 pm -- Tigers & Wolves
2:30 - 4:00 pm -- Bears, Webelos, Arrow of Light

Rocket kits will be given to all Den Leaders at the Blue & Gold celebration. Rocket engines will be distributed at Rocket Day. A limited number of sibling rocket kits are available for purchase for $10. Please see David Waller at the Blue & Gold for a sibling kit.

USS Salem Overnight, April 28-29

Join Pack 4 for a unique, fun-filled overnight aboard the USS Salem - the world's only preserved Heavy Cruiser - located at the United States Naval Shipbuilding Museum in Quincy, MA.  This overnight runs from approximately 12:30pm on Saturday through 11am on Sunday, and includes a ship tour, maritime activities, dinner in the mess hall, a movie, scavenger hunt and free time to explore the ship! 

The cost for this overnight is $30/Cub Scout and $50/Adults and/or siblings (siblings must be Cub Scout age).

Your registration is not guaranteed until payment is received via PayPal. Please look for the PayPal Add to Cart button at the bottom of the page to submit payment after registering. All registrations are non-refundable but are transferrable to others.

Clothing & Toiletries Drive

At our December 3rd Pack Meeting, we will be collecting clothing, toiletries and other items to benefit Circle of Hope and Generic Ministries. We hope you can help!

This drive is being coordinated by Boy Scouts in Troop 13 as part of one of their merit badge requirements. More information about specific items needed is in the file below.

Sturbridge Village Overnight, Nov. 4-5

Join your fellow Scouts and step back into history for a day and overnight in New England in 1830!

On Saturday, November 4, we're headed to Old Sturbridge Village to participate in Scout Day and a Hop into History Overnight. If you've never been to Old Sturbridge Village, be prepared for a wonderful indoor and outdoor experience, complete with re-enactments of life and experiences from the 1830s. See them making pottery, running the bank and preparing the muskets. Visit the blacksmith, tinsmith, and take a wagon ride. Check out reviews from TripAdvisor.

Families can sign up to attend Scout Day or both Scout Day and the Hop Into History Overnight. 

Scout Day - Saturday, November 4

This is a great opportunity for Scouts who might not want the full overnight experience, but who want to participate in a Scouting event. While we won't attend as a full Pack, consider reaching out to your den mates or friends and taking the adventure through OSV together.

Cost: $14/per Scout; $14/1st adult; all other adults pay full price admission ($28); additional children pay child's admission ($14)

Note: In addition to the typical visitor OSV experience, OSV will also be running hands-on workshops geared specifically to Scout badges. Pre-registration for the workshops is required and will cost an additional $5-10 per Scout. We will send the list of these workshops when they become available so that Pack families can register for them on your own.

Hop into History Overnight - Saturday, November 4 - Sunday, November 5

An overnight experience that takes young historians back in time and take part in a candlelit adventure through the 1830s. 

Cost: $30/Scout, $60/Adult
Fee covers activities, evening snack and continental breakfast.

Time: 5:30 pm - 9:00 am

Pack 4 has reserved 30 spots for this event. Register early to avoid missing out!

Needham Camporee Next Weekend!

Needham's annual Camporee is coming up quickly on Saturday, 9/23 and Sunday, 9/24. This is a favorite event of the Cub Scouting year and we hope you and your son(s) can attend.

** Overnight camping is part of almost every Cub Scout rank/year and Camporee is a great way to fulfill the overnight requirement. **

Registration deadline is Wednesday, 9/20.


New this year - Sunday Morning Activities
On Sunday morning, the Boy Scouts are planning special programming designed specifically for Webelos and Arrow of Light Scouts, although all are welcome. After Cub Scout families pick up their breakfast, there will be games & activities at Council Rock while everyone eats. At approximately 8:00 am the Boy Scouts will take the Cub Scouts and their parents on a hike (hopefully addressing aspects of the Outdoorsman, Webelos Walkabout and/or Scouting Adventure requirements). Camporee will end with a closing ceremony at approximately 9:15 am, and at that point Cub Scouts will break up their camp sites and prepare to leave.

What is Camporee?
Camporee is a day and overnight full of activities organized by the Boy Scouts of Troop 13 for all Cub Scout Packs in Needham. A rough schedule is below:

Georges Island Outing, 7/22

Pack 4 Tours Fort Warren on Georges Island 
Saturday, July 22
10:00 am - approximately 3:00 pm (we recommend you arrive by 9:30 am)
Meet at Long Wharf North in Boston


Join members of Pack 4 for a summer day adventure to Georges Island, one of the seven Boston Harbor Islands and home of historic Fort Warren, a Civil War-era fort known for its graceful granite archways and reputed ghost. 

Ferry leaves Boston Long Wharf at 10:00 am. We'll meet a park ranger for a tour and then lunch (BYO), then return on the 2:00 or later ferry. Families can explore on their own for as long as they like after lunch, ferries leave hourly up to 6 pm.

Families pay the cost of ferry tickets out to Georges Island
$13.60/adults
$8.00/children
Pack 4 will pay the cost of ferry tickets for all Cub Scouts attending.

PawSox Overnight, June 17th

Kick off summer with the super-fun PawSox Overnight! 

The PawSox host a great event for Scouts: We'll arrive at 2:00 pm for a clinic with the players (if you'd like), cheer on the PawSox during the 6:05 game with family and Scout friends, then set up tents on the field for fireworks and an outdoor movie. This is a great event that is always well-received.

Saturday, June 17 at McCoy Stadium, Pawtucket, RI
Scouts are free (paid for by Pack 4)
Adults & Sibling tickets are $30/per person (sisters are welcome!)
Overnight ends by 8:00 am on Sunday

Price includes:
Ticket to game

Rocket Day is BACK!

Pack 4's Annual Rocket Day is Back! After a 2 year hiatus we are pleased to be able to bring back a favorite Cub Scout activity - Rocket Day!

This is a very light lift event: approximately 2 hours in Jan/Feb to organize and order supplies; Rocket Day itself and approximately 2 hours after the event packing everything up for the next year.
