Georges Island Outing, 7/22

Pack 4 Tours Fort Warren on Georges Island 
Saturday, July 22
10:00 am - approximately 3:00 pm (we recommend you arrive by 9:30 am)
Meet at Long Wharf North in Boston

Join members of Pack 4 for a summer day adventure to Georges Island, one of the seven Boston Harbor Islands and home of historic Fort Warren, a Civil War-era fort known for its graceful granite archways and reputed ghost. 

Ferry leaves Boston Long Wharf at 10:00 am. We'll meet a park ranger for a tour and then lunch (BYO), then return on the 2:00 or later ferry. Families can explore on their own for as long as they like after lunch, ferries leave hourly up to 6 pm.

Families pay the cost of ferry tickets out to Georges Island
Pack 4 will pay the cost of ferry tickets for all Cub Scouts attending.

PawSox Overnight, June 17th

Kick off summer with the super-fun PawSox Overnight! 

The PawSox host a great event for Scouts: We'll arrive at 2:00 pm for a clinic with the players (if you'd like), cheer on the PawSox during the 6:05 game with family and Scout friends, then set up tents on the field for fireworks and an outdoor movie. This is a great event that is always well-received.

Saturday, June 17 at McCoy Stadium, Pawtucket, RI
Scouts are free (paid for by Pack 4)
Adults & Sibling tickets are $30/per person (sisters are welcome!)
Overnight ends by 8:00 am on Sunday

Price includes:
Ticket to game
$10 in McCoy credit (can be used for food in park)

Rocket Day is BACK!

Pack 4's Annual Rocket Day is Back! After a 2 year hiatus we are pleased to be able to bring back a favorite Cub Scout activity - Rocket Day!

Saturday, April 1st at Claxton Field (across from Needham RTS)
12:30 - 3:30 pm
Rain/Snow Date - April 8th

Suggested Times by Den (to decrease wait times for rocket launches):
12:30 - 1:45 pm -- Tigers & Wolves
2:00 - 3:30 pm -- Bears, Webelos, Arrow of Light

PARENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! - We need a small number of parents to assist with Rocket Day. Please sign up to help if you can.

Parking is limited at Claxton Field so families are encouraged to carpool. If the Claxton parking area is full, families must park at the Town Forest/Horsford Pond and walk over; there is no parking on Central Avenue.

Rocket kits were given to all Den Leaders at the Blue & Gold celebration. Rocket engines will be distributed at Rocket Day. A limited number of sibling rocket kits are available for purchase for $10 each from David Carter (

For safety reasons, Rocket Day is not a drop-off event. Parents need to remain with their Scouts. No snacks or drinks are provided at this event.

Last but not least...we need a parent to take over organizing Rocket Day for future years because our head Rocket Engineer is graduating from Cub Scouts. Please contact David Carter if you're interested. This is a very light lift event: approximately 2 hours in Jan/Feb to organize and order supplies; Rocket Day itself and approximately 2 hours after the event packing everything up for the next year.

Parent Volunteers Needed for Derby -- Can you help us with the Pinewood Derby? Parent volunteers are needed to assist with the Weigh In, setting up the track and helping on Race Day.

Museum of Science Overnight, Feb 2017

Join us for a perennial Cub Scout favorite -- an overnight at Boston's Museum of Science! 

When: Saturday, February 11 (starting at approximately 5 pm) - Sunday, February 12, 2017 (finishing at approximately 10 am)

How Much: Ticket prices are as follows:
$65 - Parent ticket
$30 - 1st Cub Scout ticket
$25 - Additional Cub Scouts

As with all Pack fees, scholarships are available by contacting (confidentially) Andrea Carter at or 781-559-3420.

Generic Ministry Service Project

At our December Pack Meeting, we will engage in two service projects. As our meeting activity, we will make holiday cards to send to servicemen and women overseas. 

We will also be collecting items for Generic Ministry, a Needham nonprofit that provides services to homeless and needy people in Boston. We are collecting the following items:
  • Men’s and Women’s New Undergarments and Socks
  • Men’s and Women’s Used Clothing, particularly:
    • T-shirts
    • Jeans
    • Sweatshirts
    • Sweatpants
    • Hats
    • Mittens
    • Coats
    • Shoes
    • Backpacks
  • Toiletries, particularly travel-size:
    • Deodorant
    • Soap
    • Shampoo and conditioner
    • Lotion
    • Toothpaste
    • Toothbrushes
    • Combs

Needham Camporee

Needham Camporee is a great event put on for all Cub Scouts by Boy Scouts from Troop 13. Boys participate in several activity stations throughout the afternoon and there is a campfire with skits and songs in the evening. All food is provided and cooked by the Boy Scouts.

Advance registrations are accepted thru Wednesday, 9/21. 

USS Salem Overnight

Are you ready for a great adventure? Join us aboard the USS Salem for a Pack 4 favorite sleepover!

Saturday, November 5th - Sunday, November 6th
Arrival begins at 12 noon on Saturday, with the program beginning at 1 pm. The program ends after breakfast on Sunday, however, families are welcome to stay and enjoy the ship all day.

Program Overview
Structured programming in the afternoon
Plenty of time to explore the ship (can stay all day Saturday and Sunday)
Dinner on Saturday and Breakfast on Sunday
Evening Movie Choices

Families are encouraged to bring snacks & water and there is also a (cash only) snack bar.

What to Bring
You will be sleeping on ship cots so bring a sleeping bag, pillow and personal items for overnight (pajamas, toothbrush, etc.). Also recommended are ear plugs!

SOAR - October 9th

Will you be in town Columbus Day weekend? If so, then SOAR is the place to bring your family on Sunday, October 9th. For the second time, the Spirit of Adventure Council is hosting a grand extravaganza along the banks of the Charles River. Cub Scouts and their families are invited for the day to participate in over 90 activities that include:
  • Tomahawk Toss
  • Monkey Bridge
  • Water Sports - canoes, kayaks and more
  • Ode to Pumpkin Fest - pumpkin seed spitting, scavenger hunt and golf
  • STEM activities - engines & gears, bridge building, rockets, magnetic slime and more
  • and SO MUCH MORE!
Families should register here directly with the Spirit of Adventure Council. The cost is:
- $25/person for Scouts & siblings (price increases to $35 on 9/20)
- $15/person for Adults (price increases to $25 on 9/20)

February Winter Week

 Feb 15-19th, 2016 at New England Base Camp in Milton, will be a great week-long day camp for our Scouts. Winter camp is anything but traditional... Cub Scouts will go on hikes through the Blue Hills using snow shoes,  go ice skating on our ice rink, learn how to cook in the snow and so much more.  Everyone will be able to enjoy sledding, snurfing, our indoor nerf shooting range and the olympic size swimming pool. Sign up HERE.  This event accepts siblings too, and runs from 8:30 to 4:00pm or later.  Arrange carpooling with other Pack 4 scouts.
