OzViz 2018 at EPICentre UNSW

OzViz Workshop 2018 will be hosted by EPICentre at UNSW's Art and Design campus in Paddington on 22-23 November 2018.

OzViz is an informal gettogether for researchers from around Australia and New Zealand to discuss Scientific Visualisation. It's an opportunity to meet with peers, see what the hot topics are and what is happening across Australia.

It's a great opportunity to see new work in data visualisation, gain new ideas and techniques, meet others working in data visualisation, and to initiate future collaboration. We encourage participants to present and share a range of work such as ongoing research, works in progress, visualisation breakdowns, student projects and finished projects.

Registration is now open. Please register to get your tickets : https://ozviz2018.eventbrite.com.au

This year OzViz will be cohosted with 2 other great visualisation conferences on the preceding 2 days. You should definitely consider coming along to these as well:

Morning and afternoon tea will be provided for the 2 days of the conference. For lunch, there is a cafe on campus that does good food and coffee, and there are a number of other places within a short walk of campus. Attendees will need to pay for their own lunches.

OzViz Workshop dinner will be held on Thursday evening at Una's schnitzel house in Darlinghurst. Places are limited, if you would like to come then please reserve your spot here :

Please note that this is just to reserve a spot - attendees will need to pay for their own dinner (and beer).

UNSW Art & Design is located in Paddington, Sydney, just off Oxford St. Google maps reference for campus : UNSW Art & Design

There are plenty of buses that run along Oxford St from the city, as well as from Bondi Junction.

From the Airport you have basically 3 options :
  • Taxi / Uber : Depending on traffic should take 20-40 minutes, and cost $30 - $40
  • Train : You can get a train from the Domestic Terminal to Museum Station ($17) and then a bus up Liverpool/Oxford St ($2.50)
  • Bus : It's not so well known, but the cheapest option by far. You can get the 400 bus from the Airport towards Bondi Junction, then get the 333 bus from Bondi Junction down Oxford St. If you've got plenty of time (and not a lot of luggage to carry around) it can be a good way to do a bit of a tour on the trip from the Airport.

The Arts hotel is super convenient and right next to campus : Arts Hotel. We've got a Promo Code 'ARTSCON' which can be used to get the following rates :

Standard Double/Twin Room at $170 per night, or a Garden Double/Twin Room at $190 , room only. Please note the quoted rates do not apply for a shorter stay or different dates.

Other options would be:
  • Around Kings Cross - good night life and walkable to campus
  • City - the 333 bus goes from Circular Quay right past campus
  • Bondi Beach - again the 333 bus goes from Bondi Beach right past campus. Get up early, go for a jog/swim, then get the bus in. I think this would be my option : )

Parking is difficult around Paddington, and there is no general car park on campus. The local parking inspectors are, shall we say, efficient at their chosen vocation. I would recommend using public transport if possible.
