About us

Out & Equal Houston is a Regional Affiliate of Out & Equal Workplace Advocates, a national 501c3 non-profit organization committed to creating safe and equitable workplace environments for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender employees.

History

Out & Equal Houston began in 2006 as "Out in Energy" -- regular networking socials originally organized by Chevron PRIDE and hosted by the employee groups from various energy companies from around Houston.  These networking socials quickly expanded to include other LGBTA employees from other industries across the city.  In 2008, leaders from various companies met to map out a strategy for how to best move forward as a group.  Based on everyone's collective experience attending the annual Out & Equal Workplace Summit, the group chose to pursue establishing a Regional Affiliate.

Out & Equal Houston was officially chartered in 2009 and began full operations in 2010.  We were recognized by the national organization in 2011 as "Regional Affiliate of the Year".

Today, our affiliate continues it mission -- to promote LGBT workplace equality through education, innovative programs and resources for individuals, companies and organizations across Houston.  We welcome everyone to join us and help make Houston-area employers all "Out & Equal Workplaces".
