Our Net Zero House

Our Net Zero 1890 House

1890 Net Zero House

Changing any house including an 1890 balloon framed house from a leaky energy hog to a net zero house is not all that hard. It doesn't mean your family will have to huddle together under blankets during long winter months, or give up your air conditioning. In fact in most cases it will mean you will be more comfortable in your home. On this site we will list what we did to change our very average home to a building that is comfortable, well lit and has all the modern conveniences on a budget that promises a return on our investment of 9 years or less. We will try to give you the tools to decide which modifications work to lower your energy bills, which ones will give you the fastest payback and what it really cost to get to net zero.

2021 New Condo

We are on to the next challenge, a brand-new condo. We are starting again from scratch to create a more sustainable home. First, we must correct the building's deficiencies by changing light bulbs, the furnace, and A/C as well as adding solar and battery backup. We found a condo that preserved our ability to walk to restaurants and the downtown.
