Letters and Postcards

When someone passes away at such a young age as Tomaso did, everything they leave behind becomes so much more precious. Unbelievably, the two damaged letters below that Tomaso sent to Nana shortly before they were married have been deciphered and translated. I would like to thank on behalf
of the family:
Lucap of Terni, Italy; Elba from The Alps in N. Italy; Sirena from Rhode Island; and Suanj from Italy.

These are the names they use at Italiangenealogy.com and if I learn their full names I'll post them.

Envelope of first letter sent from Lake Placid.

Poi cara Delli .......
Then dearest Delli you should know that I have understood everything that you have written to me. Now dear Delli the first thing that I must tell you about is this: my employer has told me this morning that we will not be returning any more on the 15th, but we will return on the 22nd of September; when I heard this I was left feeling like a fool. In addition dear Delli I'll tell you that today I don't feel like even looking after myself because everything is going against me, but I don't know what to do, I must just keep quiet. But I hope that one day (sooner or later) even I will be able to enjoy a little. Then dear Delli....

a Dio(!) pronta risposta e buone notizie(!).

Well, say hello to my godmother, as well as her two children. Then give my regards and greetings to momma, papa, then Rosina, Fonsina, Toni and then I return to you dear Delli, with all my heart, I send you a thousand kisses, I sign as and am always your loving husband, Thomas Pellici
(?) A quick response and (with) good news

This was also sent by Thomas but there was no message or signature, just several cards with scenes of Greenfield, Mass.
The postmark has a date of October 31, 1921, just over a month after the above letter was sent. It seems like Thomas and Nana were apart more than they liked because of his job.

I thought you might like to hear the comments the translators wrote to me about the letters:

It's a real pity, Robin, that you can't understand the "sound" of those italian letters. They have a sentiment, a power, i'll say a "life" tha can't be translated and only a mother-tongue can "capture". They represent the conditions of almost all italian migrants in the earliest '900 and bring in them that world!

But I know (for a fact) that the translators here can do the "miracle".
Luca

Luca is right...........he writes with so much love and longing for her that English just doesn't capture it the same way.

voi mi diceste che a New York fa caldo.

Well, dear Delli, you told me that it is warm in NY. Here in Lake Placid it's cold and at night, I have to stay under the covers. Then l dear Delli, I'm letting you know that tonight I felt so very cold that I went into another room and I stole the covers/blankets from another driver. well dear Delli, you will have to excuse me if you find any mistakes in this letter because not even I myself know what I am writing. Dear Delli, I don't have anything else to tell you, receive my dearest greetings and kisses of love.
