  • Students from Tsuyama prefectural high school, Okayama visited Photonics Center As well as last year, students from SSH (Super Science High school) of Tsuyama prefectural high school, Okayama visited PARC on March 27th.Prof. Takahara gave the explanation of outline of PARC. After that, the students took lab tour and they seemed to be very interested in the most up-to-date facilities such as 3D printer.

  • Student Staffs of the 5th Kid's Photonics School "Super HIKARI JUKU" were officially commended by Dean of the Graduate school of Engineering, Osaka University Student staffs of the 5th Kid's Photonics School "Super HIKARI JUKU" ( Nov. 23rd, 2014 ) were officially commended by the Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka University.The commendation ceremony was held on March 23rd, 2015 and the General manager and assistants of GM participated as a representative for student staffs. They were awarded by Professor Kakeshita, Dean of the Graduated School of Engineering.

  • Japan-Morocco Handai Project on Functional Nanophotonics kick-off workshop was held at MAScIR, Morocco From February 25th to 26th, Japan-Morocco Handai Project on Functional Nanophotonics kick-off workshop was held at MAScIR (Moroccan Foundation for Advanced Science, Innovation and Research), Morocco.   Under the Osaka University International Joint Research Promotion Program, which was selected last year is based on a partnership between photonics center in Osaka, which is headed by Professor Satoshi Kawata, with optics and photonics center in MAScIR, which is headed by Professor Zouheir Sekkat. This project is entitled “Nano-functional Photonics: study of new nano optical/photonic functions originating from the intera-ction of photon and nano-structured materials” and is running in the period April 2014– March 2017.   • We held the press conference at Phtotonics Center, 26th, January. We  introduced innovative system of Photonics Center and the outcomes. At first, Prof. kawata, Executive Director of Photonics Center explained  how our innovating system, Photonics Center works.After that, we introduced the light microscope with 10 nm resolution, the crystal for deep UV light source required for next generation production, the innovative gas chromatograph system and the eco-light bulb. These are just products brought out by the first"Entrepreneurial/Productization Project"of our center.Because some of the products were officially shown at that time, reporters asked many questions with keen interests.

Turning on the light


I used to view light as something simply to view something else by. The messenger which, by itself, is not the important thing. Light bouncing off something tells you something is there. Light through a lens is bent into an image, and recorded, and again tells you something is there. I think this is the most common view of light. As a kid I was interested in mechanical things, and needed light in order to find the screw, needed light to read the green phosphor display on our now ancient Apple II, but didn’t really notice how light interacts with things. These interactions are right there in front of us but unless pointed out are easily missed. The phosphor-based tv that we all watched is a complicated dance of electrons and photons, and its reverse process, the photoelectric effect, wasn’t even discovered until 100 years ago.

  • 岡山県立津山高等学校から生徒が見学に来られました 3月27日、昨年同様今年も岡山県立津山高等学校の生徒さんが、総勢54名程の一行でフォトニクスセンターの見学に来られました。高原教授によるセンターの全体説明と3Dプリンター等の実験設備のラボツアーに参加され、最先端の研究設備に興味津々の様子でした。

  • 1/26(月)記者発表を行いました 2015年1月26日(月)フォトニクスセンターにて、イノベーションシステムの仕組みとその成果(平成24年度採択案件の起業・製品化)を発表いたしました。まずはじめに河田センター長が大学による産業イノベーション創出のしくみを紹介し、その後、高原教授が「eco電球の開発」、河田教授が「分子分布観察用ナノ・ラマン顕微鏡の製品化」、北野准教授が「ガスクロマトグラフシステムの製品化」、森教授が「紫外光光源用波長変換結晶の開発」をそれぞれ発表いたしました。今回はメディア初披露の製品もあり、熱心で鋭い質問が飛び交いました。
