Student learning, persistence, and attainment in college are strongly associated with student engagement. Keeping students engaged and motivated can be a challenge for all instructors, regardless of content area, and online courses present unique challenges. ONL 201 introduces research-based pedagogies that foster student motivation and engagement in online learning. Participants will explore several strategies and techniques to engage students in their learning, and apply best practices of effective student engagement in their training shells.
ONL 201 is a self-paced, independent study course delivered online via Blackboard, and is structured to be completed in a two-week time frame. The course closes on the final day of the semester. ONL 101 is a prerequisite.
Successful completion of the course earns participants ten (10) professional development hours and requires a time commitment of at least five hours per week. Participants are encouraged to complete other ONL 200-level courses as a part of the Online Teaching and Learning Professional Development Program.
