Have a look around the site to gain some familiarity with it. Use the statistics to produce scatter graphs (in Google Docs) to establish whether there is a link between GDP and a selection of the statistics on offer (there are some bizarre ways of dying!)

Here are some ideas:

  • Your chances of dying of cholera
  • Your chances of dying of exposure to excessive natural heat
  • Your chances of dying in an earthquake
  • Your chances of dying in a flood

Herewith a demonstration data set in Google Docs: http://goo.gl/AqA1Y

Important:

  1. Make sure you select per capita stats so that fair comparisons can be made.
  2. Take a close look at the 'Notes' right at the bottom of the page - bear theses in mind before you come to any conclusions.
  3. Remember too that you'll need to get figures for the GDP per capita of each country too.
