Morning Prayers

A suggested form of prayer for members to use as they prepare for the new day ahead of them.  Taken from the Order's 'Rule of Simplicity'.

Opening Prayer

I come before you Father,
Aware of your great love for me and also of my own failings and weaknesses.
I offer my humble confession.

Prayer of Penitence

Father, I ask your forgiveness where I have failed you.
I ask your forgiveness where I have failed to love you and those you have brought to me.
I ask your forgiveness where I have failed in my ministry.
I ask your forgiveness where I have failed to hear your words.
I ask your forgiveness where I have failed to do as you will.
I ask your forgiveness where I have failed to listen to my own heart and conscience.
Father, I ask your forgiveness.

Prayer for Forgiveness

Father, I know that you will not turn away those who are truly repentant
And seek your presence,
Therefore, trusting in your great love for all creation, I ask for your forgiveness.
Let it empower me and give me strength when I am weak.
Let it sustain and console me in difficulty.
Let it bring me healing, hope and encouragement. Amen

General Prayers

Father, I ask that you might bring to mind those things I should pray for.

(Your prayers may be offered for the things that have happened to you,
for your friends and family and others,
for the things that you have heard that disturb you
and for prayers that have been answered.)

Father, I pray for all who love you and the work that they are involved in.
I pray that your will shall be done.
I pray for all who seek to find you that they might have success.
I pray for the world, your creation, entrusted into our hands.
I pray for all in authority that they may rule as you would wish. Amen.

Prayers for the Order of St James

For the Order of St James and its members,
I pray that we will seek those things that are good,
Seek to put right those things that are wrong
And seek justice for those who cannot seek justice for themselves.

I pray that we might be faithful in the stewardship of the ministries
You have entrusted to us,
Wise in our words, loving in our actions,
At peace in our hearts
And hold no hurt against any other.
I ask in Jesus name, amen.

Prayers for the day ahead

(Your prayers may be offered for the coming day,
for the people that you will meet and for the things that you have to do.

Be quiet for a few minutes.

Let God speak to you in the quietness of your mind, just rest in His presence.)

Closing Prayers

Dear Father, I give you thanks for these moments of peace.
I pray we might serve you well and be faithful and content in our work.
May you open our minds that we might think as you think,
Our eyes that we might see as you see,
Our mouths that we may speak as you speak
And our hearts that we might love as you love.
I ask this in Jesus name, Amen.

Closing Blessing.

I will go in peace and will be faithful in all things.
I will be God's light wherever I go.
Amen.
