Sponsor of the Osceola County FLGenWeb site!

The Genealogy Club of Osceola County provides a forum for individuals interested in the search of their pedigree and the discovery of their origins. The primary purpose is for personal enjoyment, gaining knowledge, and recording ancestry for the enrichment of descendants.

In the mid-1990's, a group of local residents began meeting casually to discuss their mutual interest in family research. Finding a convenient location for those in widespread areas of the county became an important issue. For some time, members and guests met at the Art and Culture Center (now the Osceola Center for the Arts) on US 192 between St. Cloud and Kissimmee.

By 1999, the membership list reached eighty-two in number and a more convenient location was sought, both for meetings and a growing collection of donated research materials.

Club Presidents

To date, club Presidents have been Janet Amig, Chris Morris, Clair "Skip" Whitlam, Ann Bergelt, Larry Bolinger, and Anza Bast.

Through a continuing partnership with the Osceola Library System, the Genealogy Club of Osceola County meets at 2:00 PM the first Sunday of the month (except for holidays) in the Lillie Room at the Hart Memorial Central Branch Library (211 E. Dakin Ave., Kissimmee, Florida) and offers programs, volunteer opportunities and assistance to all interested participants. You can check the Events schedule on the library system's website for meeting information.

The library system has provided the Genealogy Lab in the Central Branch for the convenience of research use to members and all patrons. The room includes computers with accessibility to Internet resources, many helpful "how to" books, and publications specific to geographic subjects as well as ethnic and military research.

Volunteers are available on a regular schedule to assist others in learning more about genealogy research in Osceola County and wherever else needed. Our members are not confined to knowledge of local families, but have interests spread around the world and are of many levels of experience.

Membership is open to anyone with an interest in genealogical research. Dues are $15 per year for a single membership or $20 per year for a couple. Renewal is on January 1st of each year. Membership includes attendance at membership meetings, seminars and various other functions during the year and 12 issues of the club newsletter. Open the Membership Form, print, fill out and send in.

The newsletter is published monthly and can be sent to email addresses. Newsletter editor is Joan Fields.

We are proud to announce that we have several original publications for sale. The profit from these sales help to fund our events and various special projects. This includes our support of the Genealogy Lab in our local library. We have been fortunate to be able to donate many books and other resources to the Genealogy Lab, thus making these resources freely available to our local genealogy community.

Publications by the Genealogy Club are available and listed on our Publications brochure and on this website. We hope you will contact us for more information and will visit this site often, as well as the Genealogy Lab and our events.
