Support Our Mission Trip to El Salvador

A group of teens from Discovery Christian Church (www.discovertogether.com) is planning a mission trip this summer to El Salvador.  The purpose of the trip is to reach out and help the orphans and homeless in and around the capital city of San Salvador.  The trip will take place from June 18-25, 2011.  While in El Salvador the group will be spending time at a government run orphanage for boys called CISNA.  The team will also be feeding the homeless and completing small work projects for those in need.

Each team member going on the trip has the challenge of raising $1,500.  This includes the cost for airfare, ground transportation, lodging, meals, and supplies for the work projects.  In an effort to offset the cost of the mission trip, team members are raising money.  In addition to sending out support letters to family and friends, team members are helping neighbors with yard work, providing tutoring, and hosting a 5K walk/run race.  The 5K race will take place at  Monroeville Community Park (Amphitheater) in Monroeville, PA on Saturday, June 4th.  The race will start at 9 AM with registration beginning at 8:00 AM.  If you are interested in registering for the race, click on the link below.

The Orphan Helpers 5K is unique in that it is an individual and team competition.  You can race as an individual and/or as part of team at the same time.   Following the completion of the race, individual and team recognitions will take place.  Recognitions will be given for the following:

Individual Recognitions - U10, 11-13, 14-16, 17-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+ (both Male and Female)

Team Recognitions - Fastest Team, Slowest Team, Oldest Team, Youngest Team, Most Team Spirit, Best Team Uniform, Best Team Name

We are also collecting donations of gently used clothing, shoes and sports equipment (soccer balls).  Please feel free to bring them the day of the race, or drop them off at the Discovery Christian Church office (see link below).  If you are not able to participate in the 5K but would still like to make a donation, please make a check out to “Discovery Christian Church” and mail it to PO Box 1964, Cranberry Township, PA  16066.  Even $20 would go a long way to support the mission trip.

We hope that you will consider supporting us!
