ORISHA is a pan-African dance troupe at Columbia University, which blends dances and music of pan-African influence. By performing dances and music from West Africa, South America, the Caribbean, and the Middle East, ORISHA demonstrates that people from Africa and the African diaspora are “dancing to the same beat”.
What We Do...
In its first semester (Spring 2008), ORISHA blended West African dances, Salsa, Capoeira, wining, and African and Bhangra beats to create a fusion of movement through dance that outlines the diversity of our members and anticipates the growing unity of global influence in our world.
