2013 Oregon Waterfowl Festival Decoy Carving Contest
 

We would like to extend a cordial invitation to attend the Oregon Waterfowl Festival Decoy Carving Contest. All competitive events will follow IWCA 2013 Rules. Mailed entries will be gladly accepted. New this year are two purchase awards, one for the “First Place Style Decoy” and one for the first place “Mini Shootin’ Rig”. The Oregon Waterfowl Festival is proud to be the sponsor of the IWCA “Working Decoy Championship” and the “Young Guns Championship” for 2013. Come and enjoy an all “Waterfowl Weekend”. Vendors, calling contests, decoy contests, boat blind contest, retriever contests, Saturday evening BBQ, and much, much more.

 

Miniature “Shootin’ Rig” Purchase Award

 This contest will be a three bird rig. A drake and hen of the same species with a third bird of choice. Birds to be carved to IWCA Style Decoy rules. The birds will measure no more than 8” from the breast to the tip of the tail. Painting to your highest ability. All birds must self right and have a minimum of 30” of line and appropriate weight attached. Any worldwide species of waterfowl may be selected. Decoys will be judged floating “In the tank”.                 Awards:     First Place $500.00 and ribbon. (Sponsor claims the winning entry)

                                    Second Place $75.00 and ribbon

                                    Third Place $25.00 and ribbon

 

IWCA Style Decoy Purchase Award by Mid Columbia Marine and Motor Sports

Open and Intermediate/Novice Class

The Style Decoy is in the hunting decoy tradition, but painting to the artist’s highest ability, will be expected. The Style Decoy Competition will be judged “In the Tank”, and must self right. The First place Open Style Decoy is a Purchase award and will be claimed by the sponsor. Intermediate and Novice class will be judged as one class. See www.iwfca.com for complete rules.

Open and Intermediate/Novice Class

There is no qualification for this contest, open to all IWCA members of all carving levels. 2013 IWCA Working Decoy Rules Apply. See www.iwfca.com for complete rules. Decoys are handmade of wood, cork, canvas and designed for hunting conditions. Entries will be judged, “In the tank”, and must self right.

                Awards:     First Place Open $200.00 and ribbon

                                    Second Place Open $100.00 and ribbon

                                    Third Place Open $50.00 and ribbon

                                    First, Second, Third Place Intermediate/Novice ribbons

 

Sugar Pine Wood Carving Supplies 2013 IWCA “Young Guns” Championship

Open to all carvers 17 years and under. Three age groups: 11 and under, 12-14, and 15-17. Please see www.iwfca.com for complete rules. There will be no entry fees for the “Young Guns” Championship.

                Awards: Each age group       

                    First Place Floating Decoy, $100.00 Gift certificate from Sugar Pine Wood, Carving Supplies, and plaque

                    First Place Bench Class, $50.00 Gift certificate from Sugar Pine Wood, Carving Supplies, and plaque

                    Second Place Floating Decoy and Bench Class, $50.00 cash and ribbon

                    Third Place Floating Decoy and Bench Class, tools or supplies, and ribbon

Seminar: Basic Decoy Carving

 Come and learn how to get started carving wood and cork decoys. As time allows, the instructor will be covering wood selection, cutting out the block, carving, and painting a Working Decoy.  If you have always wanted to carve your own hunting decoys, this is your chance to learn from a Master Decoy Carver. Time and site to be determined.

 

Mail-in entries will be accepted until two days before the contest. Deadline is June 27th, 2013

 

The Oregon Waterfowl Festival is funded entirely by donations and ticket sales. All profits are committed to the creation and fulfillment of youth related waterfowling activities and habitat improvements. Oregon Waterfowl Festival will be accepting donated decoys, miniature decoys, cocktail birds, wildlife art, and any item that could be used for fund raising in a silent auction during the festival.
