Our project is all about exploring virtual worlds for education for community colleges in the state of Oregon.

Through grant sponsorship by the Oregon Community College Distance Learning Association (OCCDLA),  our state community colleges are collaboratively exploring Second Life as a virtual space for teaching, learning and most of all, community.

We are in a pilot phase of our island's development.  If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please contact a member of our island guidance council.  The members of the council are: MonicaMarlo Martinek, Regulus Darkstone, Ruby Sol and DharmaPuppy PinkLady.

We gather during an open weekly island meeting on Mondays at 2 PM.  You can check on the Island Schedule Link at the right for our next meeting date.
We do not meet during each term's finals week, or the first week of each term.  Our meetings are very casual, we invite you to come join us around the Cascade Firepit.

If you have Second Life installed on your system, click here to visit OR Community Colleges Island.

Second Life Computer Requirements:

Before getting started with Second Life you should check to make sure your computer meets the minimum requirements for the software.  You can check here: http://secondlife.com/support/system-requirements/

Getting Started with Second Life:
Getting started with Second Life is pretty easy.  There are three basic steps in getting started and enjoying your Second Life adventure.
  1. Create an account.  When you create your account, the avatar name you choose will be displayed in Second Life.  Choose wisely as you won't be able to change the name of your avatar after it's been created.  Your avatar name is also your password so you want to make your avatar name something you'll easily remember.   Hint:  Go for the free account.  You can always upgrade your account to a paying one at a later date if you want to get into owning land.

  2. Download the Software and install it.

  3. Login to Second Life.  The first place you'll go is Orientation Island.  This island will help guide you in learning how to move, communicate and navigate within Second Life.  After you spend time on the Orientation Island, be sure to visit Help Island.  Spending time on these islands will help prepare you for experiencing all the sights, sounds and wonders of Second Life.

Here's a link to a Quick Start guide created by Linden Labs who created Second Life...  http://secondlife.com/support/quickstart/?lang=en-US  This guide will help you in setting up video and sound within Second Life.  The guide helps you with skills learned at the Orientation Island that you may have forgotten or are unclear with.
