Welcome….

    On behalf of the Orchard Farms PTO, we would like to welcome all new families to the Orchard Farms community and welcome back those families returning for the 2016-2017 school year. Orchard Farms would also like to wish Ms. Magnelli & Mrs. Gustafson well in their new positions and we thank them for their service at Orchard Farms & Hope Highlands. We welcome our new principal, Mrs. Basile, and assistant principal, Mr. Myszak, and wish them well as we begin a very exciting school year with the merging of two elementary schools in our community. We would also like to thank the executive boards from Hope Highlands & Orchard Farms from the 2015-2016 school year for leading two great PTO groups.

    Our PTO is comprised of parents, family members, teachers, support staff and administrators who are dedicated to improving the educational experience for our children. We are able to do this by helping to provide items and funding that are not included in the school budget, with the help of members of the PTO. Some examples of our support to the school are: assistance with field trips, cultural arts programs, purchasing planners and folders for students, etc. Every child benefits from our organization.   We have begun our membership drive and would like your family to consider joining our organization. It is a onetime annual fee of $10. We are an independent, non-profit organization and all money raised is used for bettering our school.   A membership form has been included in this folder for you to review. You may return it to school with your child or bring it to any PTO meeting.  Meetings are held monthly and are planned around the school and district calendars, holidays, school committee meeting schedule, etc. Students from Cranston West volunteer to babysit at all PTO meetings in the cafeteria.

    Included in this folder are several informational sheets. Hopefully within the next few weeks, you will be able to look through everything and mark your calendar for important events. We are trying a new way to broaden communication using “Remind.” It’s a very easy way for us to communicate reminders of meetings, events, due dates and general information. Please consider signing up for either the text or email version. This is one way communication and you do not have to worry about receiving replies from anyone or having your name or number published to recipients. Info for this is in this folder.     We will hold monthly meetings and encourage you to attend to learn more about our organization. We have a volunteer connection, coordinated by Julie DeLuca (juliepdeluca @aol.com). If you would be willing to bake, volunteer at an event, etc., please contact her to add your name to the group for general emails when volunteers are needed. You do not need to commit to any certain amount of time; it’s what you choose.  In the next few weeks, we will be sending home an order form for spirit wear. These optional items may be purchased at designated times during the school year. There will be a variety of options, featuring our stallion logo and school colors.

    This year we will be having each child come to the office to choose a book, bookmark and birthday sticker after their names are announced in the morning for birthdays. We also have a PTO notice board and student birthday display case that will be changed on a monthly basis. Birthdays that are celebrated in July & August will be posted and read aloud in June. Current flyers and information will be posted on the PTO news board, next to the birthday board in the front lobby.

    Our Back to School Bash was the first of many fun events that our students will enjoy this year. It was great to see children making new friends and catching up with old ones too. If you were not able to attend the bash, or didn’t have a chance to sign up for membership or for a committee, we will have information available at our first general membership meeting on Wednesday September 14 (7:00pm) and at both open house dates (Sept. 21 & 22).
