4 January - Renewal

Renewal in the New Year!

The start of the New Year is a good time to renew friendships and our commitment to the environment. Strong communities are better able to cope with and recover from extreme weather and climate change and friendship networks are an important part of strong communities. This month’s activity sheet focuses on renewal from both an environmental and social perspective.

Renewal focused activities

Hint: You can use these activities as ideas for the “Choose your own” activity on the activity sheet if you would like.

Random Acts of Kindness

As a family think of some nice things you can do for friends, family and the wider community. Here are some ideas to get you started:

-       help clear a neighbors car and driveway when it snows;

-       play with someone at recess who is alone;

-       make cookies to give to your grandparents and their neighbors.

Think about how doing random acts of kindness made you feel. If it made you feel good, keep doing random acts of kindness.

Renew your passion for the environment

Think about something about the environment that you really love that inspires you. Is it a particular animal or a walk in a forest? Do you enjoy listening to birds or playing in the snow? Make a list of all the things you love about the environment and find a way to reconnect to at least one thing on your list.

For example:

-       If you love lions, visit the zoo, read a book or watch a video about lions;

-       If you love listening to birds, sit quietly in a park or listen to a recording.
