What Is A Badge?

Open digital badges are graphical representations that act as assessment and credentialing mechanisms. They are created, managed and shared online.

Open digital badges capture, promote, and transfer learning that occurs in diverse contexts: in-school, out-of-school, and online. Badges have the potential to transform the value of alternative learning pathways.

The Mozilla Open Badge Infrastructure is free software that allows earners and issuers to easily collect, share, and display their badges online. Many badge creators strive to make their badge systems OBI compliant. For more technical information on how to make a badge system OBI compliant, visit the openbadges-specification GitHub page.
