Email is a fact of live. And if you don't use it correctly, you can actually reduce productivity within your company or organization. There is one tip, however, that can make all the difference in the world, when it comes to email:
ONE IDEA PER EMAIL
If you want to be highly ineffective, load up an email with multiple ideas and lots of different, unrelated tasks. When I owned my advertising agency, I learned to keep one idea per email.
This is critical because most people scan the first paragraph or so and then skip, shuffle, store, forward or delete. But what if something was really important in your 19th bullet point?
If you stick to one idea per email, the recipient can act more efficiently on its content. If the email needs to be forwarded, it can be, without sending a bunch of unrelated information to the second recipient.
You can delegate tasks quicker and easier. Keep people focused, not accidentally share confidential or "not for public distribution" info and be able to process shorter ideas, quicker.
