Countdown to 2012 Native American Basketry Inspired Necklace
Countdown to 2012 Native American Basketry Inspired Necklace
"Countdown to 2012" Native American Basketry inspired pendant necklace. 16 gauge hammered copper wire forms the base of this piece with woven 26 gauge copper wire. When I chose "Wild Wild West" as my spring theme I knew I wanted to do some sort of woven piece in the style of native American basketry. I did research online for a month finding different samples to be inspired...it took 3 months for it to stew in my brain and pop out into something. It is loosely based on the Mayan calendar with the circles spiraling inward. The center stone , representing the earth is a chunk of the mineral chysocolla that I managed to beg off of my sister last year from her continuing education class. (see Audra...I told you I'd do something with it ;-) ) The woven "basketry" part also represents the rays of the sun and our place within the cosmos
