Making God Known - How to Bring Others to Faith in Jesus Christ

Ransomed, liberated, or rescued from captivity or bondage, or from any obligation or liability to suffer or to be forfeited, by paying a price or ransom; to ransom; to rescue; to recover; as, to redeem a captive, a pledge, and the like. • τετέλεσται (Greek) te-tel-es-tai Literally translated the word tetelestai means, “It is finished.” The word tetelestai was also written on business documents or receipts in New Testament times to show indicating that a bill had been paid in full. The Greek-English lexicon by Moulton and Milligan says this: “Receipts are often introduced by the phrase [sic] tetelestai, usually written in an abbreviated manner...” (p. 630).   The connection between receipts and what Christ accomplished would have been quite clear to John’s Greek-speaking readership; it would be unmistakable that Jesus Christ had died to pay for their sins.

Recent Announcements

  • National "Back To Church Sunday" - Sept. 12, 2010 What would happen if every member of your church invited just one person to attend a Sunday service with them? How many people do you know who “used to go” to church, but just don’t anymore? If you are like most Americans, you know quite a few. Statistics show that only 2% of Christians invite someone to attend church with them in any given year. Please invite your family, friends, neighbors and co-workers to come to church with you on Sunday, September 12th. If you attend Cypress Church invitations will be available in the Lobby beginning in mid-August.
