Children's Liturgy

The Children's Liturgy has been simplified and adapted for children to help them better understand and participate in God's Word. Children's Liturgy take places every Sunday during our 11am Mass and is run by a group of Catechist volunteers. After the opening prayer children are invited by Fr Richard to participate, they are then escorted into the Chapel by catechists scheduled for that day.

The sessions are quite structured as we only have about 20/30 minutes.
The children are led through role play, songs, drawings, questions, prayers and other activities to enable them to understand the main service scripture of the day in a fun way. The children rejoin the mass during offertory.

The Children’s Liturgy group invites children aged from 4 to 7/8 (Year 3) who are yet to celebrate their First Holy Communion. Why can’t younger children join? In this group children learn to understand the Gospel of the day at a level of school age children (4 plus) in a way they can understand and enjoy, reinforcing what they learn at school. Any children under the age of 4 are not yet ready for this level.

All Catechists are vetted (CRB checked) and have received Catechist and Child Protection training. They meet to plan the Sunday programmes on a regular basis.

We welcome your child to come along and join in - we are always happy to see new faces and love to see old ones too.

We are always looking for new volunteers to help with the Children’s Liturgy. If you would like to become involved or just want to find out what your child experiences when they attend Children’s Liturgy please contact the presbytery (parish office).

Polite Notice: The Children’s Liturgy only lasts for about 20-25 minutes so to avoid disruption to children during this time, late arrivals will not be allowed to join the group and the toilets will not be accessible at this time.
